If you mean the "look up" feature, no. You cannot use the reverse interlinear feature offline… that function is performed on the Logos servers. If you mean "can I manually use lexica to look up words," the answer is yes.

Thanks for the quick reply, Alabama. I had hoped to be able to double click on a Greek or Hebrew word in BHS or NA to get to BDAG or BDB. But I'm far less impressed by what I can't do than I am by the wonderful capabilities of the iPad offline and on. What a wonderful traveling library! May God be thanked[:D]

If I'm offline then I use a regular interlinear eg. the lexham ones. These do have morphology visible.

Good point… yes they do. FYI - in L4/L5, you can choose to show or hide the various elements… on mobile, each element is "always on."

I know I am posting to an old post. I am trying to lookup greek/hebrew words as I read ESV on my ipad Logos App. I do not have a base package, but I don't mind spending $20-40$ on a resource. Is there some work around or another app I should use?

I don't know if I fully understand your question... This thread is about looking up OL words offline... which isn't a current feature of the app. If you are asking about looking up OL words online, it might be good for you to create a new thread. I can't remember if there are any free resources which will accomplish this or not... typically, you would need to purchase a base package to acquire the reverse interlinears... which would be considerably more than $40. There are also "minimal cross grades," but I don't know exactly what you would need.

I had posed a similar question to Logos when I noticed the Strong’s numbering on the NASB95 resource only showed up in a pop-up of the resource and not when in the actual resource, (which I thought was weird because the selling point was that it HAD Strong’s numbering). I was informed that the IOS Application was designed as an on-line companion tool for Logos Library owners and the Strong’s numbering was disabled because Logos 4, (and now Logos 5), is moving away from the limitations of the Strong’s numbers and is focusing on the actual language of the text.

I agree with Steve Maling. Because I most often find myself with my iPad in a situation where Internet is not an option.

I think it would be outstanding if a standalone App, (one I would be willing to pay for), was designed to use the already imbedded hyperlinks of the resources, so I could use the books I already purchased to do more in-depth Bible studies offline.

I just bought my first iPad and (I think) I have loaded my entire library into it (Is there a way to tell?). I really love going to TDNT when the Spirit leads :) during my morning devotions but I can't figure out an easy way to look up a word (this morning it was "paradise") from my iPad. I double tapped the word and saw the Strong's numbers but I couldn't click on the number to go to TDNT. Is there a way to do that? I'm not seminary-trained so I'm learning this stuff by the seat of my pants. Thanks for any help. -David V. Clearwater FL

    David,

If I do a Bible Word Study (Guide) on a greek lemma and in your case, for paradise, παράδεισος, then one of my results is usually from the DBL.  I like the DBL because it has links to Strong's, TDNT and Louw Nida.  When I select the link for TDNT 5.765, I see a pop up of the TDNT entry for your greek lemma.  Does this help?  I know it involves more steps than going directly to the TDNT, but I don't know how to do that on the iPad.

Welcome David! I will let Juanita help you with this issue since she is more knowledgable about this than myself.

    A couple of things though:

    1) Look up requires an internet connection (which is what this thread is about).

    2) In the future, please create a new thread for new questions or problems. It is free to do so. [:)]

OMG! (oh my goodness!) That's great! I did as you said, I double-tapped "paradise" (on my iPad), then tapped "Lookup", then "Bible Word Study", then clicked on the link for DBL (which I didn't even know what that meant). That took me to the DBL entry for "paradise" which had the hot link for the TDNT!! Awesome! I don't mind the steps, just being able to DO it at all is great. Earlier this morning I scrolled through the whole TDNT until I found the Greek spelling for "paradise". (I learned the Greek alphabet years ago), so your way is MUCH faster! The only problem I had was that clicking the link for the TDNT took me NOT to the entry for Paradise, but to the entry BEFORE it. paraggall-- something like that. At first I thought Logos had the wrong word tied to the link, then I realized that since I was in split-screen mode in the Logos IOS app, that the entry I wanted was on the half-page that wasn't being displayed. So I just scrolled down a little and WALA (i.e. voila), there it was! Thanks for taking time to answer. I was afraid the app was going to just be a book reader, based on other posts I had read. I love the depth that the TDNT goes into and having it at my fingertips again on my iPad is wonderful!!  Thank you!!

You're welcome.  Interesting-when I do the Bible Word Study for this word, I get a list of twelve lexicons, none of which is the TDNT which I would have expected along with BDAG, EDNT, DBL, Manual Greek Lexicon, NIDNTT and others.  And Louw Nida is not in the list, either.  Working with lexicons has its challenges on the Bible app.
