I see that the fourth edition of this book is available:

LOGOS only has the 2nd edition.  Does anyone know how much difference there is between the 2nd and 4th editions?  See the following for details on the fourth:

Given that it's history, I'd be inclined to trust the older edition more since it represents the original author's intentions faithfully. Shelley surely knew his subject.

    Hey there,

I suggest to read the Logos forum guidelines, as well as the Amazon Associates Operating Agreement. Especially Amazon is usually quite displeased if they find someone posting (spamming?) advertising links in forums...

The question I asked is legit.  How does the 4th edition differ from the second?  I added the tag without thinking, the question was not intended to be SPAM - though I can see why it might be seen that way. I apologize for the distracting addition to the link.

I have friends taking a course requiring the 3rd or 4th edition - could I recommend LOGOS with the 2nd edition?  Or should LOGOS pursue  the new edition?

    Blessings,
    Floyd

It is a very good question and one that has been brought up before in years past.

I guess Logos figures that the second edition is good enough for us. That's really the only explanation that can be given.

     Jan,

Floyd is one of the first people to help with Logos issues and always edifying others in the forums.  [:)]  I really don't see that he did anything wrong as he was just asking an honest question.  However, I think the hyperlink to HeiDoc.net that you're sharing on the bottom of your signature has many links in it that one could question if people wanted to police everything that is posted.  I'm not saying that you police the forums [:)]  Just making a friendly observation.

Blessings to you through Christ Our Lord,

    Cliff

How does the 4th edition differ from the second?

Well I used the Look Inside feature on A.

    The forward indicates that

    [quote]

There are minor alterations throughout, but I wished to honor Shelley's personal imprint upon every page. I have hadded information concerning Gnosticism and it's ongoing relevance, the theology of the early church and Reformation, and most extensively the rapid global extension and transformation of Christianity since 1900 (in 3 new chapters).  ...

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

I'm not policing indeed. If I wanted to police the forum, I would have reported Floyd to Amazon, and his affiliate account would be history within the next few days...

Would it be better not to say anything, and wait until Amazon discovers his links by other means (they're quite good at that... and it's not just one link, so it'd be hard to justify as a one-time accident...)? I hope you're seeing now I'm just trying to prevent damage here...
