Highlight function crashing after a few uses
Hi, I'm using the current Logos app (4.6.4), and iOS 8.4
I've found that after reading for a couple minutes, and making a few highlights, the ability to select / highlight text disappears.
If I close and restart the app, it works normaly for a while.
I don't know if this happens in any resource. I've noticed the problem while reading Calvin's Institutes, with highlights set to a resource specific notes file. I have a second notes file open in a split screen, for chapter summaries.
Is this a known issue? I'm a new user, so could be doing something wrong!
Thanks!

I'm using two note documents with this resource:
- The Logos generated "Resource specific note document" is about 9 printed pages, primarily of highlights
- A second notes document containing about 5 printed pages (short written summaries of each chapter I want to keep separate from all the highlights etc)
I'm using a 4th Generation iPad (late 2012). I also use a Macbook, although the problems are only on the app.
I've also notices that if the screen orientation changes, the notes are sometimes messed up (the character in the titles overlap etc). Again, this fixes by closing and re-opening the app, so isn't a big deal.

You aren't using an OLD device (I have a third gen iPad and use it without difficulty); nor are you dealing with large note document problems (unless there is more you didn't tell me about).
What kind of markups/highlighters are you using? How full is your iPad?

The only markups I'm using are "highlighter pens", with the occasional underline (from "emphasis markup").
The notes are about 2 sentences of plain text each, attached to an underlined subchapter heading.
My ipad has 5.6GB available, and no open applications.

I've attached an example screenshot of the little formatting bug: you can see that the reference attached to the note has been corrupted.
This occurs when the screen orientation changes a few times, and resolves on closing the app.
Might be entirely unrelated to the highlight function disappearing!

I don't know. I would normally suggest deleting and reinstalling the app... but you said that you were a "new user."
I wouldn't recommend the deleting and installing of the app if you are relying on the app store. I am currently unable to download it. FL said it was a problem on Apple's end...

Apple has resolved the app download issue.

UPDATE:
The highlighting bug seems to be related to the reading in Scrolling View. When I turn Scrolling View off, I can highlight to my heart's content.
May or may not be relevant, but I'm using the resource as a reading plan. This seems to select scrolling view as the default.
Deleting and re-installing app had no effect.

What are you attempting to highlight, single words or phrases? Is Swipe to Highlight turned on or off? There are no known issues with highlighting not working when Scrolling View is turned on.

Reading Plans are unrelated to Scrolling View; there is no default view for Reading Plans... if you want to turn Scrolling View on/off it's in View Settings.

I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean that the app still crashes after using highlighting a few times? It would help us if you used the "Report a Problem" menu item under Help to send us your device logs.

Hi Kevin — thanks for picking this up.
I did send a report from within the app, but didn't receive an acknowledgement — should I have?
Swipe to Highlight is turned on. It works initially, but after swiping to highlight a few times you lose the ability to select / highlight any text at all. The app itself doesn't crash, it's just selecting/highlighting text which breaks down. I'm generally trying to highlight phrases and headings. Closing and re-opening the app temporarily resolves the problem.
The first time I opened a resource in the app (which happened to be a reading plan), it opened in Scrolling View. It just occurred to me today to try and turn this feature off, and the problem went away.
There is a second (and possibly unrelated) issue with notes appearing to become corrupted if the screen orientation changes a few times. This also resolves if you restart the app. I included a screenshot of this with the "report a problem" log.

It was suggested earlier in this thread that I tried deleting and reinstalling the app itself — it didn't help.

Yes, but it was still in the queue.
It works initially, but after swiping to highlight a few times you lose the ability to select / highlight any text at all.
I am unable to reproduce this one. Does this happen in a specific resource or in all resources? Does turning on/off Scrolling View have any effect on the issue?

I believe there is already a case for this issue but if not I will enter one.

Does turning on/off Scrolling View have any effect on the issue?
YES — the issue only occurs when Scrolling View is ON. I can reproduce the problem quickly by scrolling aggressively (up and down a few chapters). With normal behaviour it seems to become "confused" in the same way, but takes longer
I've also just noticed that it seems to happen when (any) notes document is open in a split screen. Closing the split screen also resolves the issue.

I noticed the problem reading Calvin's Institutes (McNeil). I've been able to reproduce it in other resources, but much less consistently.
To be honest, it's no longer a big deal for me now I know I can turn off scrolling. But you might like to know about it!

Really fast scrolling up and down can cause display rendering issues. Is there a valid reason you are scrolling that fast or is it just because the app supports it?

I'm not scrolling that fast!
As I said, it happens through normal use. But if you're trying to reproduce the same issue, you can trigger it sooner by fast-scrolling.
