What Option is Cheaper?

Okay, so I am looking at purchasing the Master Journal Bundle currently on Pre-Pub. My Dynamic Pricing Discount brings the total to $399.94, and if my math is correct this would include about 850 volumes. I also have a Community Pricing order for the Princeton Theological Review for $50, which includes 443 volumes.

My question is this, what would be the cheaper option? Should I purchase the Princeton Theological Review at $50 knowing that Dynamic Pricing will apply to the Master Journal Bundle and 443 volumes would make up more than half of the 850 volumes I dont currently own, thus driving my overall cost for the Master Journal Bundle down? Or should I cancel the Pre-Pub an just buy the Master Journal Bundle?

It seems that the former would weigh in my favor considering the revised publication date of 09/01/2015 (Master Journal Bundle releases 09/15/2015)

Good question. I don't know. I got the Masters Journal back in June or May, whenever the option was possible and when I see the CP price for the Princeton Stuff, I absolutely know that purchasing the Masters Journal was the cheaper option, and that $50 on CP looks pretty steep in comparison. I currently have the Princeton Journals. On the other hand, if the Princeton Journals were a stand alone product, $50 is a pretty good price for what you receive.

I suspect that, with dynamic pricing, the damage buying both will be very similar to buying only the Master Journal bundle...and a call to CS would probably even things out.

I viewed it the opposite way: I was going to get that collection and a few others, but saw that they would have been half what the Master Journal Bundle was, so I opted for the MJB. I think that you would benefit from the MJB longterm because of the sheer number and additions that it grants.

I ordered both products, then when Faithlife released the dates they are going to be released the same day. The Princeton ones was $50 from community pricing but since it comes in the Master Journal Bundle I deleted the Princeton ones. I expect the Master Journal Bundle will be priced much higher than the prepub price once it ships and think I will get a better deal buying it and not paying the $50 at the same time.

That would certainly be the case if Dynamic Pricing were not in the equations. Either way I was contacted by sales and offered a deal I couldn't refuse. I went with the Master Journal Bundle.

Yeah, it looks like the majority of the journals are already available. Looking forward to browsing around. I'm going light this semester because I recently acquired a second job. So I am currently scheduled for Spiritual Formation (DSMN 520) and Contemporary Evangelism (EVAN 525). I'm looking forward to it. How about yourself, Erik?

It's probably a good idea to take both EVAN 525 and DSMN 520 at the same time since both require witnessing reports.

I'm only 50% complete, so I have yet to take most of my ministry/missions/evangelism/church administration courses, but I'll be taking them soon enough.[:D] This semester I'm taking The Corinthian Correspondence (NBST 618) and Church History II (CHHI 525).

If you get the Princeton Journals and then later on upgrade to the Master Journal Bundle, your price for MJB will not decrease by 50.00. I think about 10% of the cost will be applied via Dynamic pricing.

It is my understanding that Dynamic Price is a discount applied based on what you own, not what you spend. Thus, the discount would be applied based on the cost of the Princeton Journals within the MJB.

I think this may be what you are referring to...

Princeton was posted years before the Master Journal Bundle (MJB) so it makes this a bit tricky, but not overly so.

1. With dynamic pricing—which applies here—you'll never pay for the same content twice.

2. The MJB is by far the better deal. This will give you the most for your money.

3. If you bought the Ship as Available option of the MJB and did not cancel your Princeton bid, Princeton would be dynamically priced at $0.00 since all of that content is in the MJB. So you don't need to do anything.

4. If you pre-ordered the MJB, are waiting for it to ship on 9/15, and want to keep the Princeton journals as a stand alone, the MJB will be dynamically priced based to account for your ownership of Princeton when it ships. This will not maximize the value you receive.

5. Unless you really want Princeton two weeks earlier, I strongly recommend that you cancel your bid on Princeton.

6. The only people Princeton benefits as a stand alone product are those who:

want Princeton and nothing else

those who purchased the Academic Journal Bundle and also want Princeton

those who purchased the TJL Upgrade Bundle and also want Princeton

If value is what you're looking for you should pre-order the Master Journal Bundle.

Again: if you have pre-ordered the MJB AND have an active bid on Princeton you should cancel your bid on Princeton.

I also had the Journal bundle on pre-pub order and the Princeton on CP and needed to make a decision as to which way to go.

I had a CHAT (Faithlife website) with a sales representative as I didn't want to make an international phone call.

The conclusion is that the journal bundle is the better deal.

So he helped me to cancel the Princeton on CP and I will go ahead with the journal bundle pre-pub order.
