How do I avoid a 8GB logos 5 download?

My Win 8.1 laptop crashed and replaced with a Mac Yosemite10.10.5 Retna. Ist time mac user, so far so good-a few quirks but much easier than Win 8.1.

I am trying to avoid an 8 GB Logos download. I have all my resources on my desktop Win 7 machine that I can copy. Logos Wikipedia article Quick Installation onto Multiple Macs says to:

“3) Launch “Logos Bible Software 5” OR “Verbum” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” application then sign-in

4) Once downloading starts, click on blue Logos icon in menu bar => Cancel Download

5) Click “Logos” OR “Verbum” OR “Logos Bible Software 4” => Preferences (OR Tools => Program Settings)

Change “Automatically Download Updates” from Yes to No”

I cannot find the option to cancel the download. When I drag the Logos into the Application folder it takes me to the sign in screen with no options. Once I sign in it goes to the 8 GB download.

What am I overlooking?

The Microsoft clone of Apple's Menu Bar is the Taskbar with Taskbar default location on the bottom of the screen. Apple Menu Bar is on Top.

Prior to Logos 6.3, the indexer downloaded files. When the indexer is running, an icon appears in the menu bar with menu option to cancel download. Logos 6.3 and newer has download done by application with download notification (and cancel option) in the main Logos window (on right side near Layouts).

When I drag the Logos into the Application folder

What is the application bundle name ? Logos Bible Software # (where # is a number)

The bundle is LogosMac.dmg. Once I launch it a window comes up to drag the "Logos Bible Software 5.app" to the application folder. When I do that I have to authenticate it with the Administrator Log in and password.

It then created a remote drive on my desktop with the Logos blue icon on the drive. Below the drive the name is "Logos 8.61 GB."

A right click gives several option, 1) Open, which does nothing; 2) get info, which gives detailed info of the computer and location of the file on the HD, etc. 3) Quick look "Logos", which is how much free space is on the drive. That is more or less how much of the download is completed.

There are other options such as Burn to CD, Duplicate, Make Alias, etc.

The bundle is LogosMac.dmg.

LogosMac.dmg is a disk image (dmg) that can be opened (mounted) to access the Logos application bundle in it.

Once I launch it a window comes up to drag the "Logos Bible Software 5.app" to the application folder. When I do that I have to authenticate it with the Administrator Log in and password.

"Logos Bible Software 5.app" is an application bundle (actually is a folder with application and associated resources inside)

If would like to avoid Administrator Log in, then can copy application bundle to your Documents folder (similar to Windows default installation destination).

After copying "Logos Bible Software 5.app" to your desired location, can eject (unmount) the Logos disk image.

Yes that is correct, however to create the dmg requires an 8 Gb thats giga byte download. All I need is the engine not the entire resource folder.

I haven't dealt with the problem at hand for the last 20 days as was in the hospital. I am currently thinking, since this is a Mac not Win, to install Logos 4 (I have the disk) then do the upgrade download. If I recall correctly that is less that 1 Gb download.

The LogosMac.dmg (disk image with only the engine) for Logos 6.6 Release Candidate 1 is 176.3 MB. The disk image is compressed. When the disk image is mounted (opened), the Logos Bible Software application bundle can be copied. Personally dragged Logos 6.6 RC 1 application bundle from the mounted disk image to Documents folder, which uses 400.9 MB in Documents folder.

Thankful scan command can copy resource files plus Update Manager queue for download.

Screen shot shows Logos 6.6 Scan appearing in Tools drop down when the path exists. Personally used Logos 6.6 to scan 103 new resources from a Windows Logos 6.6 installation to OS X plus reduced download queue size from 1.3 GB to 208.6 MB. The Windows share name Logos5Data reflects a Logos 5 installation that has been updated to Logos 6.

Logos 6.6 has a Notification icon on right side of the main window:

Hovering mouse over the (1) shows Notification message about available Updates plus link to start download:

Note: Logos 6.6 on OS X Program Settings has Automatically Download Updates set to No

If Resources folder is on an external drive, use scan /Volumes/volume name/Resources command (replacing volume name with external drive name, e.g. USB default volume name is NONAME)

Note: for Logos, <path to resources folder> must not contain /Logos4 folder because Scan command copies resources files within specified path (including subfolders) into your Logos4 folder.
Note: for Verbum, <path to resources folder> must not contain /Verbum folder because Scan command copies resources files within specified path (including subfolders) into your Verbum folder.

Option: can open diagnostic log to verify scan path added:

Version 6.3 or newer no longer requires restart; after scan path command is entered, scanning begins immediately.

8) Optional for version 6.3 or newer: Launch “Logos Bible Software” OR “Verbum” application then wait for Library Preparation to Complete

Blue Icon should appear in Menu Bar along with “Preparing Your Library”

Indexing may take several hours, can open indexer diagnostic log file to monitor progress (replacing username with your login name)

The download ended up being 10Gb, there was no option to cancel. There was an option to quit, so did the download. It was not that bad a little over an hour. Im up and running. Thanks for your help.
