Every euphemism in the Bible

Does anybody know how Logos can be used to find all euphemisms in the Bible?
If it cannot be done with the software, even suggestions for a resource that lists them would be appreciated.
Thanks! André

I don't know of a resource that focuses on that, but there may be ways you can find them. I just tried two methods:
1. Search all lexical resources you own for "euphemism". I found that some lexica have more hits than others, so perhaps you'd get a more complete list there.
2. Search a complete commentary series (if you own one) such as WBC for "euphemism". Here again, I got lots of hits and it is arranged by volume, therefore, by books of the Bible.

Hello Andre,
Check out this resource from E.W. Bullinger. https://www.logos.com/product/1951/figures-of-speech-used-in-the-bible-explained-and-illustrated
There are several pages devoted to this figure. This is a great resource.
God Bless

If you add a space after pasting in a hyperlink, it will make it active. You can't simply press "return."

This can be done with the New Treasury of Scripture Knowledge. First locate the figure of speech you want to search for in the figure of speech index (like euphemism). Then hit the reference listed with that figure to go to that location in the Treasury. Now mark and copy the "f88" reference number (which in this case is the one for euphemisms) and insert it into a new basic search, searching the New Treasury for instances of that figure of speech. My search found 51 occurrences. You have to copy the reference into the search window though, just typing "f88" does not work. The "f" must be a different symbol.

Also, if you have the UBS Handbooks you could just search that series for "euphemism". This might give you more hits though, as it not only identifies the euphemisms used in the Bible but also at times suggests to use a euphemism when translating into a different language. However, by comparing the different searches you should find most instances.

How do you find this resource helpful in relation to euphemisms?

I cannot speak for Ted but I find it very weak in that ground. For example there is little doubt that at times feet is a euphemism for genitals i just reviewed feet in IVPDBI and they did not even hint that was possible.

That's funny! Earlier in the day before the original post, I was telling a tennis buddy about how understanding the euphemism you mention in Isaiah 6 helps to understanding the function of the wings. Then, when Ted mentioned the IVPDBI, a resource that I have but rarely looked at, I thought I would give it an examination. For it to prove itself, I looked up feet, noticed the same thing you did (that it did not reference genitals) and walked away a little disappointed. [:)]

See page 778 in IVPDBI for discussion of feet under Sex
