Text compare, how to compare all bibles.

I would like to compare this verse in all of my bibles. Text compare only does 5.  Is there another tool that I am missing???

What am I missing? I like Richard's method, but Text Compare allows me to type in as many Bibles as I want.

That all depends on how many translations you want to compare. My English Bible collection contains 40 resources. That would be a lot of typing. Plus if I should add more English Bibles, the collection would add them automatically.

Agreed. But the OP had said Text Compare would only allow five versions. I read it as Richard's method was a work around to that. Reckon my brain is still fuzzy this morning.

I too can compare as many Bibles as I want (well, up to 11) using the Text Comparison tool.

Even the Compare Versions section of the passage guide lets you customize it to be able to compare up to 9 versions (I realize Compare Versions is a completely different tool, though, and not what you were using):

It appears to use the first Bible in your collection as the "base" text, so you could set up the collection in the order you want. If you want to be able to use different Bibles as the "base" you'd have to make a different collection for each of these possibilities. Seems like a lot of work to me, when you can already type in as many Bibles as you want (up to 11). I'm not sure where you're seeing the limitation of five.

To get Rosie's menu you have to have scholars or above. Leaders doesn't have the text comparison tool.

Just to clarify, my post was sort of a red herring. There are two separate features here. The menu I was describing has to do with the "Compare Versions" tool which is part of the Passage Guide (and is only available in Original Languages and above), and has nothing to do with the Text Comparison the original poster was asking how to do. I shouldn't have digressed. But if you're curious, this is what it looks like.

Frankly, I'm not really sure I understand what it means or what it's good for. Anyone?  I think the idea is to give you a visual representation (not textual) of how different the different versions are from each other. It's not a chart I know how to read though, so it doesn't do me any good, and I always omit it from my custom PG templates.

Then there's the Text Comparison too, which is also only available in Original Languages and above.

I added ESV and then my collection of English Bibles and it used the ESV as the base text. Still not sure how useful this is in the long run--I don't think I'd need to compare this many Bibles. I could see using it with a collection of Favorite Bibles or something similar.

Did you run this on 1:1? If so, a bug has not been fixed; if not, the bug has spread like a virus.

Any book - it causes the river to show no variation in the text while the spray chart shows variation.

Whenever I run it on any one verse, it shows no variation in the river but the spray chart shows variation. Perhaps that is by design? The granularity of the river must be one verse at a time. It's not a visual tool I've ever found particularly useful anyway, so I'm not too concerned about it and am not going to champion a fix for this. But if it's a bug, I hope it's been reported, and from what you said before, I trust it has.

Then select that collection from the drop-down list on the second line of the tab (just under the passage input box).

Is this capture from the 4.0c beta, because my 4.0b (Portfolio) doesn't include it as a setting option.  I get Compare Versions...Bibles: and View:  Thank you.

Nope, I posted that on January 14, and 4.0b wasn't even in Beta yet, let alone 4.0c. So that was probably from 4.0a SR-3, judging by the dates in the release notes. I've usually always been up-to-date with the latest release. However when I just tried it now (in 4.0c Beta 1), it doesn't have all the options it had back then. This is what I see now:

I don't recall them saying anything about removing part of the functionality of this feature, so I'm puzzled.
