And it shows that 2.1 will also be an exceptionally great deal in comparison to its sub-bundles.

That doesn't make sense. Suppose I owned $100 dollars worth of resources in the bundle. Then I would pay $1299-$100 = $1199 for the upgrade (after dynamic pricing), but someone who owned none of the bundle would pay $799. I don't understand why owning parts of the bundle results in paying more for the upgrade.

But some of us own things outside of the original MJB 1, such as WTS, which counts as part of dynamic pricing. Just to be clear, that means that someone who owns anywhere between $1 and $500 in resources included in the current bundle will pay more than someone who buys it out right (owning nothing in the bundle).

Dynamic discounts are based on SRP. They work the same on all products we sell with dynamic pricing enabled.

In this case, the original Master Journal Bundle has a total SRP (displayed on the product page as "Print Value") of $11,657.93. The 2.1 version of the Master Journal Bundle has a total SRP of $14,209.42. So if someone owned the entire MJB 1.0 and wanted to purchase the MJB 2.1, they would own ~82.04% of the total SRP of the new bundle, resulting in a dynamic price of $143.65—a discount of ~82.04% off $799.99.

Sorry for the confusion on this. I think we need to look at our tool tips and find a better way to communicate discounts to our customers.

The dynamic discount is not subtracted from the Regular price, but rather from the Sale price (assuming one exists for a given product ... if it doesn't, then it is in fact subtracted from the Regular price).

On a more significant level, the dynamic discount is actually based on total SRP—so if someone owns 50% of the SRP in a collection, they will see a 50% discount on that collection's Sale price. If that collection is not on sale, they will see a 50% discount on that collection's Regular price.

It may be that when the original master bundle was put together Logos had not yet negotiated arrangements with the publishers of all the journals originally supplied through Galaixie to have them included in the original collection but they now do have those permissions - which is great news for all didn't previously own them - you just will have to pay the extra to get that access now.

If you owned some of the old Galaxie journals and purchased MJB 1 or one of its sub-bundles, your Dynamic Pricing discount will be quite large. The numbers given above are consistent with what we anticipated for folks in that situation. A large chunk of the additional content in MJB 2.1 and its sub-bundles were in the old Galaxie collections (i.e. Westminster, Tyndale, and SBJT).

Don, this is correct. It's due to the fact that the Master bundle has a better discount than the theology bundle. You'll always get the best deal when you buy the collections that have the deepest discount. Sometimes smaller collections with less content are actually more expensive than larger collections with more content. It doesn't happen that often, and it seems a bit odd. But it is correct, and the math works out like it should.

Let me summarize the issues:

Dynamic pricing is working correctly.
The larger collections may be less expensive than the smaller collections. That's due to the deeper discount off the combined resource prices.
The dynamic pricing discount is coming off the Pre-Pub price, not off the full regular price (contra the tooltip).
The only error here is in the presentation of the breakdown of the discounts in the tooltip. When we built it, we never planned to have dynamic pricing on Pre-Pubs.
The prices you're seeing are all correct, are all factoring in your full ownership, and are all coming off the discounted Pre-Pub price. You can safely pre-order.

We'll confirm tomorrow, but everything except the tooltip should be working properly.

Now the best deal is to buy MJB 2.1. If you bought MJB 1, and then upgraded to MJB 2.1, you would have ended up getting a slightly better deal. That's no longer the case, though, since MJB is now more expensive as it's no longer on Pre-Pub.

The main operative principles here are:

Buy early to get the best deal. As often as possible, we try to reward early adopters with the best deal (e.g., those who bought the first round bundles).
Buy big to get the best deal. It's almost always true that buying the biggest collection will be the best deal rather than buying a smaller collection and then upgrading to a bigger one (i.e., it's better to buy MJB 2.1 than to buy one of the other bundles and then upgrade to MJB 2.1).

It is all making sense to me now. Some people owned some of these journals prior to the Master Journal being released whereas I did not. But I'm planning to get them now. [:)]

Shipping new ones every quarter seems like a good strategy to me depending on how many of them there are but I really did appreciate the option of having them delivered as they were ready. If that option was available I would probably take it.
