EBNE Shipping 10/6 - More detail, please!

https://www.logos.com/product/49459/encyclopedia-britannica-noet-edition
This is exciting, but highlights the fact that we still know just two specifics: 19,000+ articles, 25,000+ images; also, many who purchased EBNE in Pre-Pub did so in a three day promotional window when this was the only detail available. Now that the product is built, please post additional information (subject range, file size, sample articles, sample graphics) to assist us all in evaluating this promising resource. Perhaps doing so would help those not yet "in" to take advantage of the current 60% Pre-Pub discount. Thanks!
Grace and peace. <><

Encyclopedia Britannica has always been a media-rich resource. With EBNE, a staggering supply of images is completely searchable—more than 20,000 photos; over 2,000 art images; 1,567 maps; 279 flags; and 689 videos. Logos makes it easy to include this media in your next lesson, sermon, or Bible study.

Hi all!
This post has some helpful details in it: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/100978.aspx?PageIndex=1
The details Travis mentioned are helpful.
I'll see if I can find more details on file size and subject range.
One quick note on this: because we wanted to get this out to people as fast as possible, we're shipping it before the software update that will expose LCV and Timeline data. This update should ship within ~2 weeks of the resource's ship date. It shouldn't affect things too much, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

A few quick details I've gathered:
The initial estimate for the file size is 260 mb. That may be larger once the resource is finished (so don't hold me to that! [:)])
The subject range is: "A, a" to "Zywny, Wojciech." I'm not sure if that helps but I'm not sure what else to give for a subject range.

Where are the example pages (an article or two) to review?

There were several requests for sample encyclopedia articles in that thread, and Sherri implied that Faithlife might be able to post some closer to the ship date. Are you going to be able to do that?

260MB seems awfully small. That makes me suspect Internet access will be required for all those photos and videos. Either that or they are REALLY low resolution. That really concerns me.

Good logic in your remarks....it has me wondering as well.
Per the EBNE webpage:
(EBNE) includes more than 25,000 images, 10 million words, and 19,000 articles; and 689 videos.
260MB is Very small.
Edit: after looking into where Logos Resources are stored, i found that just the ESV Study Bible uses 217MB. So 260MB for the EBNE really seems small. Matthew, you may have guessed correctly that most photos & videos may be internet access. Guess we need to wait for more input from Faithlife.

I would expect that the videos at least work like other media libraries sold by FL, which can be streamed on demand, downloaded on demand, and deleted at will.

Sorry, in my haste to get you data as quickly as possible I may have made a mistake [:$] I should have waited to get better data before giving that stat. It's going to be more like 3 gigs.
You won't need internet access for photos and videos.

Point taken, but (1) this is not a media library, (2) not all images in Logos require Internet to access, and (3) nothing in the product description said this would be only partially usable without Internet.

Thanks for the update. That probably made the difference between me keeping and canceling my order.

Why does Logos do this ? Waiting another 2 weeks is not a big deal. Seriously you are only going to create support calls and people wanting to return the product because it does not function as advertised. This product has been a public relations failure for Logos from its first announcement and continues to be with question still being asked as to what it is that we are actually being sold and you are now going to ship it early ...not fully functional ? Nothing personal Ben I know your just the messenger - my concerns are with the company's practices.
To me the message is more like we have passed our intended internal shipping date on this product, it is not ready but we are going to ship anyway, cross our fingers and hope we get it fully functional in a few more weeks.....

And every day it is not fully functional means one less day to evaluate the fully functional product before the window to return it closes.

Very good point Matthew.. so we are now potentially getting 16 days on our money back return guarantee to evaluate the full product , it if is ready on time. Logos really needs to lift there game in thinking about what they are really doing to their customers. You are not helping us by shipping early .. you are hindering us .... only Logos is benefiting from releasing a less than complete product early.

Actually I am just fine with a slightly cobbled initial release. There will be a whole lot that is ready, and I'll be glad to have it.
I am sure that Faithlife will honor a 30 day return based on the fully functional date.

It was my call to ship it now. Perhaps that was a mistake. If so, I'm sorry. [:(]
To be clear, though, the goal was to get the product out to customers as soon as possible, not to give you less time to evaluate the product.
I'm working on getting sample pages. Once I have them I'll post them here.
Again, I'm sorry for the frustration on this. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Also, please feel free to email me directly if you have issues with the product once the update ships:

Ben thanks for taking responsibility for the early shipment date but that said this is something that is symptomatic of this company as a whole - let just put it out there before it's ready, cross our fingers and hope there is not too much fall out.
The information on this product from the start has been less than available and Logos has pushed the line continually ....but what you are getting fully integrates into your library you timeline will be enhanced etc...so to ship without it being functionality - they very thing that has been used to sell the product to us makes no sense - particularly when we have the Wikipedia tool now in Logos so it's not like we don't have access to a broad range of general information from within Logos and we are really benefitting from getting it early...so this product has to offer us something more than just an encyclopaedia to look up - (added to the Wikipedia tool I and others will already have the Columbia Encyclopaedia in Logos format from the days when it was available as a Logos product ) - I hope shipping it before its ready to fully show its display its feathers doesn't have a negative impact on its reception - I'm trusting this product will be a good one despite the many concerns it has raised.

Could you please clarify by what you mean "now"? Currently I'm on holidays using cellular data which is fine for small downloads but I would not want a 3 GB download via cellular.

Thank you, Mark!
I, too, will be glad to receive what we receive, when we do. And I purchase that keeps on growing is kind of fun.
How about we lighten up a bit, folks. I try to do that by beginning with thanks for what is received. [But now I'm sounding all preachy, so will quit while behind:-).]

The videos will ship as streaming media. By default, they will stream to your computer on demand, but you can "Download all media" in advance to have an offline experience.

I am glad to hear of this option. I take it then that the 3GB estimate includes photos but not videos. What is the estimated size after using the download all media option?

I just wanted to hear for sure that this is not the 1827 edition with outdated articles. I already bought this with the promise that we would get more information before publication. Why is the real content such a secret?

Question: Is this product going to be kept up to date? In other words, will the information be continuously updated when new information or articles become available or is the initial release all there is? Sorry if this question has already been answered, I couldn't find it.

There will be a fee to update it, but we have yet to be told how much that fee will be or how often the updates will even be available.

I'm looking forward to this one. I never felt underinformed about the product. Numbers of articles and various media are enough for me to get the sense of the scope.
Thanks for doing this. I'm grateful to have a set of encyclopedias that don't take up an entire bookcase. My daughter can peruse it without me worrying about her stumbling across bad stuff on the internet.

Joe, thank you - I join you in seeing this resource as full of potential. The request for additional/ sample content is in the interest of maximizing value to the "interested, but not yet in" and the "pre-ordered, but mildly confused" groups! [:)] Also, at any price so far offered (all OK in themselves), the purchase is a considerable sum.

If they were going to show us something, they would have done it by now already. Smoke and mirrors.
My gut feeling is that this is going to be a flop, and they're hoping fewer people will cancel orders they've already made after the ship date, than cancel their prepubs before it ships..
But I'll be happy to be proven wrong!

I've missed the 3 day sales. How about the Encyclopedia Britannica (32 vols.) in community pricing ? could this go faster to publication?

They may be even busier next week handling all of the returns from folks who don't like the product because they didn't get to see a preview before they purchased it. I don't understand why it is so hard to post a couple of pages (or articles) in advance (especially since FL said they would do so).

I agree (although I'm perhaps more confident than you are that the product is worth the money). What I object to is the conspiracy theories.

I am glad you brought this up. The Encyclopedia Britannica (32 vols.) is a complementary product to the EBNE. It is a complete, unabridged comprehensive set from 1910 with updates through 1920. There are no subscription costs associated with purchase. It gives an in-depth perspective on the important issues of the day.
EBNE is an up-to-date resource. It does appear to be a concise version of the complete encyclopedia. I understand future updates are planned. Buying both resources will give very good coverage. I encourage everyone to consider bidding on the 32 volume set while it is in Community Pricing.

You (We as I have a bid in) will be waiting a long long time.... This item is not even close to the 20% level... I am not sure there will ever be enough interest to put this over the top.
