Correlating cryptic resource filenames with regular full names

Hi! I want to install a subset of my resources on a tablet. How can determine what resource is contained in what file on disk? For example, the following are a few filenames in the Resources folder:

01GK.logos4

1GK.logos4

2AE84BFB62392FC081529449705C7252.logos4

ESV.logos4

I assume the last resource is the text of the ESV Bible. I have no clue what the other resources are. Is there a map somewhere of cryptic name to regular full name? If so, where? If not, how do I correlate cryptic and full names?

Before we deal with "cryptic filenames," lets clarify something. What do you mean by "tablet"? Is it a full windows device? Android? iOS? The only reason you would need to know filenames is if you were using a full windows tablet... but even then, you have troubles. The desktop app is designed to sync with the internet and also designed to download ALL resources. Picking and choosing which resources to install on the DESKTOP version of the app isn't supported (although there are ways to try and trick the app into doing so). What are you trying to do?

On the Logos app on your tablet, the procedure is to open the resource you would like to download (instead of stream), click the circled i for resource information and then tap download. No code talking required. If you click the i on the top right hand of a resource within the free Logos 6 desktop program and scroll down to devices, I think you can send resources by checking the boxes and they will automatically download (never tried it, YMMV). If you scroll all the way down, you can see the file name under "support info"

You can also use the library to manage downloads... for most resources. Most Zondervan devices are excluded.

This technique only works for the MOBILE apps, not for the DESKTOP app.

This is the desktop Logos app on Windows 10 on a full Windows tablet. I've seen posts where other folks have been told they can take resources from a full Logos installation (such as on a desktop PC, which is what I also have--both another PC and a full Logos installation on it), copy the resources that they want to their tablet, and then use the SCAN command in Logos to let it know where the resources are and to have it index them.

I've installed Logos on the tablet using a custom install and telling it not to download files. The core Logos program runs fine. Now, I just need to get the resources I want on the tablet copied from my desktop PC to my tablet.

It looks like Justin's info might do the trick. I'll try that after I finish re-installing Logos on my desktop.

I purposefully turned off letting Logos automatically install updates, because I don't want everything on my tablet. I don't mind the extra overhead of re-copying resources if they get updated on my desktop and I want the updates on my tablet, nor do I mind having to reinstall Logos on my tablet once in a while if there are significant changes in the core program. I don't really plan to do much on the tablet except some lightweight searching and taking some resources along with me to read. Any involved work would be done with my desktop installation.

I just tried a variation of Justin's suggestion. I didn't see a circled i when I looked at the list of resources with the Library menu item in desktop Logos 6, so I right-clicked on a resource. This opened a pane with lots of information about the resource. There is a section in the pane named SUPPORT INFO, and the last piece of information in that section is the name of the resource file on the disk.

I don't see a way from this pane to tell Logos to download a resource (there's just a method for sending the resource to a Kindle), so I'll try copying some resources to my tablet in the morning and then running the SCAN command and see what happens.

The mobile Android/Apple apps give you the choice of resources to download but the Windows desktop app does not allow this. So it won't make any difference what resources you choose to scan as the desktop app will always want to download all missing resources. Your download notification will show you the size of the missing resources after you scan your subset, but you can't indefinitely refuse to download because you won't get resource updates and app updates.

The only effective way to reduce the number of resources is to hide unwanted ones but this will affect all your desktop installations.

Ok! After scanning your chosen resources and ensuring that all sync activity has finished (i.e. you've got all your user documents), use Program Settings to set Use Internet to NO and restart Logos to effect the change. Ensure Automatically Download is set to NO and remain that way whilst on the road. To update the app you must manually download it from the web link in the Faithlife update thread on the Logos 6 forum. To update the books you must scan them (and only them!) from a folder whilst online.

Hello Don, yes I believe I have the answer that you're looking for. The only way I have found to do this is by exporting your entire library into Excel and then you can correlate them from there. Here's how to do it:

1. Open your library, select the menu in the top left corner of the screen and then select "Print/Export..." (or just hit Ctrl + P on Mac or Cmd + P on Mac for Print/Export)

2. Once the export screen pops up, select "Save as file: Spreadsheet (Excel, etc.)" and choose where to save the spreadsheet.

3. Open the new file in Excel (or similar spreadsheet software), and search for what you're looking for. What you want to do is compare the "File Name" column in the spreadsheet with the "Title" or "Logos Title" columns. It might help to delete the columns inbetween or drag them next to each other for easier comparison as I have done here. Notice my search for the first filename you mentioned shows that this is the "Phalaris (Greek)" resource. I hope this helps!
