Can we get the ESV Global Study Bible free in Logos? - Docx Link removed

Concerning the thread of the same title, I have removed the docx file conversion that I shared through Dropbox. The thread is locked, so I could not reply there.

This copyright stuff is a tricky matter, so please forgive me for breaking the rules. My thoughts were that a resource that is freely offered by the publisher could be posted in a converted format (in this case, docx) as long as it is posted in it's entirety unmodified.

I, too, have done the same.

I don't believe that there were many that shared on Dropbox, so most of the copies are probably gone. Things like this can replicate like a virus if not addressed early.

It's too critical and technical for the average person to be interested in reading any of it beyond the 1st paragraph (if they/we/I get that far).

I will try to be a little more energized in reading the fine print of some of those documents. If the publishers would write a simple statement such as you have, everyone would probably read and understand it, but the statements that they write will have most people falling asleep after the 1st line. My opinion. [:)]

I see the kindle versIon is free but the OT version is still for sale at $29.99. If Logos had this title I could see the point of inquiring but as FL does not produce products generally unless production costs are covered and at $0 per copy costs can never be recovered I would guess the answer would logically be NO. That said FL has been magnanimous giving away several Lexham products like FL study Bible, LEB, Lexham Bible dictionary, Connect the testaments devotional and of course the Perseus Library. So there is some president, but I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yeah but I've heard them talk about their engine that can convert EPUB files or whatnot. They should be able to easily convert this into a Vyrso book at a minimum. If we can convert it to a personal book easily, they can convert it to a Vyrso book easily. That should be a non-issue. Even if it was an issue, however, they could just throw it on community pricing until enough of us pledge to cover the production cost of them spending the few minutes to convert it from EPUB. If they want to convert it to Logos format that's an extra bonus and I'm sure that could be easily funded in community pricing as well. I'd rather pay $5 to fund a community pricing conversion of an already existing and easily available eBook than $50 for the only other alternative at this point.

I don't believe anyone here meant to do wrong, but this isn't even close to being ok. You don't own the resource. You have not received permission. It doesn't matter if the resource was given away for free, they still own the rights to it. If you feel strongly about it, write the publisher and ask for permission and explain clearly what you intend to do with the files. Even still, FL would probably not want you posting the file for reasons stated above.

Actually I am quite happy with the ESVSB in Logos, and don't see any reason to have the Global Study Bible version. I would bid a few dollars to have that in Logos just to help others who may want it.

Faithlife is very generous in giving away resources for free (or low cost), and I really appreciate that. The LBD is what I would call a top of the line, high quality, dynamic resource.

I have reached out to Jacob through Faithlife messages, but did not get a response yet (it may be too soon to expect one). I think it was a mistake to lock the thread as opposed to just removing the links, but that was the call. The few involved in posting the links (myself included) pretty much got the idea that it was beginning to cause some issues.

Here is my message:

No, it does not answer the question. If the costs are covered, Faithlife only has something to gain by adding this resource. Sure they may not profit on it financially with this resource itself, but this will add a valuable resource along with the LBD, Faithlife Study Bible, etc. that will make Faithlife more attractive even to those who can't afford to buy a base package right away.

The initial issue has been resolved (THIS TIME) by the removal of the links, locking of the post, and pretty much everyone voluntarily deleting their Dropbox shares to the file.The issue is destined to resurface again at some point in the future; primarily due to unclear and/or not easily accessible copyright information. One thing that is clear (and I am not sure it is clearly understood by everyone) is that a resource which is being sold AND not freely given away, that resource can not legally be copied and redistributed or sold.

Until next time (which may be minutes away), the issue has been cleared.

The original post (Can we get the ESV Global Study Bible free in Logos?) was a question about bring this resource to Logos, however, this post was intended to be a response to the last entry/reply in that post (made by Jacob). The response could not be made, due to the thread being locked, so I created a new post (this one) of the same title with the amendment of " - Docx Link Removed" to differentiate between the two.

This post was meant for nothing more than to enter a response to Jacob's entry on the original post. It probably would be in order, to create a new post to discuss bringing the ESVGSB into Logos. Of course, excluding any file attachments and links to docx conversions.
