Ipod touch 8 GB offline
Hello,
I'm about to buy an apple ipod touch.
Is the 8 GB version enough to read some Logos 4 books offline?
Thanks for answering

can use you download resources to the iPod touch?
I don't know if to go for the 16gig , 32gig or the 64 gig
which one would you recommend as a all-rounder device is the 64 gig a overkill
appreciate any pointers

u can use the resources offline on the iPod Touch... as far as storage space, it really depends on what you're using it for. if you're using it for music & video too, you may want a larger device.
personally, i already own a Microsoft Zune as my primary portable media player, so i'm really only using the iPod Touch for the Logos app, and a few others (like games & such), so the 8GB model is just fine for me.

Is it possible for someone to give some examples of how the file size of resources compares to the Logos 4 edition? That might be the easiest way for us to guestimate the size iPod touch/iphone that would best suit people.

Andrew,
The app itself takes up 1.8 MB
I have the NET, ESV, NASB, Westcott Hortt GNT, and BHS bibles, ISBE, Finally Alive, Hodge's Systematic Theology, two commentaries on Matthew (JC Ryle, Cornerstone), BDAG, and the Commentary of the NT's use of the OT. These together appear (based on what itunes is telling me) to take up either approximately 790 MB or 204 MB (That's just a guess though). I don't know if the data is listed under the "application" section or "other" section.

I had to reinstall the app and thus the books on my iPhone just now, so I investigated for you. These can only be very rough figures since iTunes report used and free space in terms of GB's.
TDNT took up about 0.17GB on the device (free space reported by iTunes went from 5.73->5.56GB)
Anchor Bible Dictionary took up about 0.15GB on the device (reported free space went from 5.56GB to 5.41GB).They are 80,227 and 83,701 kB in my Logos3 folder respectively. Hope that helps. [:)]

So it's possible to download Logos books onto the ipod touch for offline reading? I thought you had to be online, but that would be intriguing. I couldn't afford an iphone, but an ipod touch would come in handy for the Logos books.
Has anyone downloaded a large amount of books to the iphone or ipod touch? I'm wondering how much space (GB) that would take up.

Offline reading is possible but I think that all other functions are severely curtailed unless online.

Hi Joel,
Like you, I'm not yet in the market for an iPhone (someday, hopefully!), so I purchased an 8gb iPod Touch. I'm finding the Logos App to be remarkable! I have only downloaded a couple of books for offline access, but I have not had any space problems. Like others have said, it doesn't seem to take an unusually large amount of space to keep some resources offline.
Peace!

I am new to forums and I am new to ipods and Apps.
Last week I purchased an itouch for the sole purpose of having many of my 3100 + Logos books with me. I downloaded the Logos App and then a number of books to be used offline including the ESV which is on the iphone-ready list. I have upgraded to Logos 4 Platinum. When I am way from an internet connection I receive a message that the itouch cannot connect. When I try to read the ESV I receive the message that it cannot connect to the internet and I cannot read it.
When I tried to download the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary (which I purchased) I receive an error message that it failed to download. I have made several attempts but always with the same result.
Nowhere have I found a way to download the 31 free books Logos is offering.
Reading a recent Logos Blog I was told it is best to sign in to my Logos account when I download books. I tried the link given but received an error message. I am tired of error messages and want to use my itouch and the Logos books. HELP!
Can someone give me a step 1, step 2, step 3, etc.for installing the App and the books so I can use them offline?

Donald,
Welcome to the forums! I hope we can get this taken care of quickly so you can enjoy the Logos app [:)]
1) You should have a logos account that you use to access this forum. That should be the same account information you use when you first signed into logos 4. In turn, that is the same account information you'll use to sign into the Ipod app. I'm fairly certain that you need to have wi-fi access in order to sign in. If you have wi-fi access and still can't sign-in to the app, you'll probably have to call Customer Service.
2) Once signed-in, you'll have access to the 31 free books mentioned in the blog, as well as to whatever purchased books you have purchased that are available for the ipod (not every book is available yet!). I'd suggest you set your Auto-lock settings (Under "Settings" and "General") to "never" at this point". Now you can download books. If you aren't signed in, downloaded books won't be stored. Click the blue arrow next to a title, then change the "available off-line" button to "on". See this also for more help: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fQKeMVJxN-E
3) Wait! Bigger books like AYB will take time (maybe 10-15 minutes or longer). If your ipod goes into sleep mode at this point, it will lose the connection and you'll have to start over. I have had a download fail once or twice at this point, and you just have to start over. I don't know why it happens. I usually try not to downloaded to many things at the same time.
I hope it helps!

Hi,
Is there a way to put my Logos library on my logos app on the Ipod touch, without having to be online.. I've got a mobile broadband connection and all this downloading is costing me bigtime!!!
Thanks,
Willeke

Definitely. Most books you can download via WiFi.
Out of curiosity, how much are you getting charged?

@ Joel
Hi Joel, thanks for the quick reply. However, my Wifi is my Mobile broadband.. It will take the bytes I download or sync off my 3G account, so with a Logos Library that actually is bigger than 3G... will cost me more and more.So my question is: without having to be online (and I mean Internet) can I sync my Ipod with my Logos Library. Maybe I should mention that I do have a timemachine, if that makes any difference...

Hi Willeke,
Two weeks of silence suggests it is not possible, unfortunately. There is no way to directly sync with your computer!
Try downloading only one publication at a time within each 3G account billing period.
Alternatly find an internet WiFi hot spot with a cheap (free ?) useage rate.
The main issue is with the protection Apple have in place to protect copyright of software and files. It is something which is unlikely to change.

Currently Logos iOS application can only download resources using network connection - wish for option to drag and drop resources using iTunes.
Can look in Logos 4 Resources folder to see file size. Wiki has resource folder path => http://wiki.logos.com/An_update_is_downloading,_what_is_it#After_you_Apply_the_Update
In Logos 4, can use command open <resource> to verify name: e.g. open gs_netbible shows open The Net Bible - gs_netbible.logos4 file is 36,536 KB.
Keep Smiling [:)]
