How to tell Vyrso books that are in Logos format

A problem I am working with Customer Service on, where I was not updated with a Logos version of a book because I had the Vyrso book, got me wondering - is there a way to see what Vyrso books are in Logos format? I am wondering (for me and others) if there are other books in our libraries that are in Vyrso format, but that have been converted to Logos format yet we have not been updated. Is there a way to tell/figure that out?

The only way I could think of cross-checking this is to do so manually by comparing your Vyrso library with the Logos website but that would be very time-consuming.

As Alabama said, this a great suggestion. Thanks for sharing this. I just went through my list and realized that most of my resources that are greyed out (no long available) are not Vyrso books that have been converted to Logos books. I guess they are simply not offered any more. But your method really narrows down the list. I also decided to tag books that have been converted from Vyrso to Logos just for for the sake of interest.

I think it;s clear that Faithlife's policy of giving us the upgrade when a Vyrso book becomes a Logos format book is not being reliably followed, if at all. I Have a number of books that are in my library twice, in both formats, that I Have been charged for. Others I Have not gotten the updated version.

To follow up with Bruce's comments... It is true that books on this list may not currently be Logos editions... It does simply mean the book is no longer being offered. I should point out that sometimes books are pulled because FL decides they want the resource in Logos instead and hope to work out licensing agreements... Sometimes that is LONG in coming. It also happens from time to take time that FL forgets to pull a resource from Vyrso. In any case, this is a good technique to come up with A starting point.

I found the same thing Alabama, there were Vyrso books with no hyperlinks that appeared to just be discontinued. But it was much easier to check only those to find any which there was a problem. I cross checked with my Vyrso and Logos orders to get invoice numbers, luckily I tag resources with the Collection they came with if it was not an individual purchase so I could find the invoices for all 11 duplicates.

I have sent an email to Customer service, along with the Vyrso and Logos invoice numbers for the 11 I have purchased twice, and the Vyrso invoice numbers for the three that should be updated to Logos format, requesting resolution.

I am concerned that this does not appear to be dealt with as promised, but we will hold the larger issue for another time. I wonder how many users are affected by this.

I have sent an email to Bob asking for his help. I really think this problem needs to be addressed for me and others affected, and I am disappointed I have not heard a word from Customer Service for 4 days after I sent a lot of detailed invoice information that I worked to compile. Even a "We are working on it" would have let me know they are not just hoping I go away.

The only books i have that i purchased in Vyrso and then came out in Logos are by Francis Chan. However, in my case, I seem to have duplicates of these 3 books all in logos format:

What does it mean when a Vyrso book no longer has an active link but does not appear in a Logos search?

(In this case, Glorious Ruin appears as such in my Vyrso orders but doesn't turn up in a Logos search.)

Vyrso is no longer able to sell the resource (unlikely in most cases) or
FL has determined the resource should be in the Logos catalog rather than the Vyrso one and is waiting to secure Logos licensing agreements.

The question is, did you pay for it twice. In my case I did. You may want to check your order history. Some of the updated versions might have come with collections that may or may have had dynamic pricing, so it could be tricky to research.

That hasn't happened to me (bought vyrso AND logos editions). What HAS happened: some vyrso resources had new editions created simply because of a change in ownership. The files were identical. I discovered that I had repurchased a number of books because Vyrso didn't show I owned the book... although I did. Just a copy sold under different conglomerate. (Most of the books were purchased under $4, and when I discovered the issue, FL made it right... I am still in jeopardy, however, of doing the same thing again).

Don--I just saw your message today. I'm sorry about your experience. It's been passed along to the relevant parties.

I did want to pop in and briefly explain our current processes.

Both past and present, it's never our utmost desire to have a resource move from the Vyrso channel to the Logos channel. If a book is better served by receiving the Logos treatment, we'd rather never sell it in the Vyrso channel. In fact, one of the steps in the Vyrso channel is to give a resource a quick vetting that asks if it would be better as a Logos edition.

Nevertheless, there are occasions where we could only sell a title in the Vyrso channel. Later that restriction was lifted and we wanted to move it to the Logos channel simply because it was a resource that demanded to the Logos treatment.

As of about 1 to 1 1/2 ago we made the call that when this happened (i.e. moved from the Vyrso channel to the Logos channel) we would simply update the Vyrso edition. By re-using the resource ID (and some other under the hood stuff) we were able provide customers who originally purchased the Vyrso edition with a free upgrade to a Logos quality resource. Further, since we were using the same resource ID it would show up on logos.com as a resource you already owned preventing a customer from re-purchasing it.

Of course the sticking point in all this is catching titles that are already sold in the Vyrso channel before they get posted on pre-pub (or at the very least before production on the pre-pub titles has begun). We do our best to catch them before they're sold but we occasionally miss a title. (Though to be fair, in our current system I don't think I've seen a report in about 9 months.) However, ff we are missing titles, we want to know so we can fix it and refine our processes.

I recognize that doesn't fully address your concerns--which will be addressed by someone else--but I did want to share with you (and whoever else is interested) our current state of affairs.

Lastly, I was intrigued by your examples where you have the vyrso format but a Logos format exists. In one case (Finding the Lost Images of God) I updated the metadata. It no longer appears as a Vyrso resource. In the other two cases, it looks like titles that already existed in the Logos ecosystem came through Vyrso channels. I'll be looking into how that happened.

For what it's worth in your explanation, in my research I did see maybe 3 or 4 PrePubs not out yet that are existing Vyrso editions, in case they are not on your radar. There may be more, these were based on Vyrso resources I have that I was looking through.

I happen to know for a fact the version of "Healing for Damaged Emotions" that you hyperlinked to above is a new edition that was released a few months ago. The old edition was pulled from vyrso once the new edition was released and that's probably the edition that you own. The same thing occurred with the Kindle editions.

The workbook is also new and was a one of the free books from David C Cook Earlier this year and the old edition of Healing for Damaged Emotions was a free book in December 2014.

I also purchased this ebook title in Kindle format as well and now it is no longer available on Amazon either except as a hardcopy. So it is possible that the publisher has pulled the ebook editions. Maybe they are getting ready to release an updated edition.

With that said, I think Alabama24's hypotheses still stand.

MJ answered your question, but for clarification: Faithlife has a number of different "brands," each with its own "flavor." Every single resource sold by Faithlife can be read in the desktop app. As long as you use the same credentials (username & password), the books will automatically download to your desktop software. The different brands:

Logos: Primarily academic/seminary level resources
Verbum: Aimed at Catholic users
Noet: Geared towards non-religious academic works; primarily of a literary bent
Vyrso: Books that you would find at your "local christian bookstore" that don't fit into the other brands.

Vyrso books include fiction (i.e. Amish Romance Novels) and non-fiction (i.e. "christian living") books. There are some vyrso books which would be better suited for the other brands. In some cases those books are there by mistake. In other cases they are there because licensing agreements couldn't be worked out for the other brands.

Vyrso books are "bare bones" and are auto converted from the publisher file. They are lesser in quality. For example, they won't have page numbers in them. On the plus side, since they aren't the same "value added" resources as "Logos edition" ones, they fall into a different set of licensing agreements. There are daily deals on books, many for free or $1.99 (U.S.).
