Problems when wifi is not available

When using wifi, all works as it should. When I am without wifi I have problems. Specifically, I cannot see the bible text for some bibles I have downloaded, nor does the verse selector display correctly. Trying to display the table of contents for the bibles, or other downloaded resources, says Loading, but never continues. When I bring up a daily devotional resource (also downloaded) it goes to the title page rather than the devotional for the day.

I have an iPad Air 2 and iOS 9.1, running what I think is the latest Logos for iPad.

Suggestions?

    I cannot see the bible text for some bibles I have downloaded

    I experienced something similar to this on a beta build (which is the version you should have now on stable). I could have sworn the bible was downloaded (it was my primary bible after all). I ended up needing to redownload it.

    You might want to try sending the support info in. I don't have my device near me right now to walk you through the path. Start with clicking on one of the gear wheel icons. If you need help with that, I can walk you through it later.

    Have you recently upgraded iOS on the device?

    Alabama - I removed and re-downloaded on of the resources I was having problems with and it seems to work. I hope I don't have to do that with all downloaded resources.

    i already submitted a report and see that Kevin responded.

    Kevin - yes, in fact, I did recently upgrade to iOS 9. I bought a new iPad Air 2, upgraded it and my old but trusty iPad 2 both to iOS 9, then did a backup from my iPad 2 and restore to my iPad Air 2. Removing and re-downloading one resource cleared the problem for that resource. Please tell me I don't have to re-download all my resources. (I submitted trouble report before starting this thread.)

    Bill, have you seen any other resources where the issue occurs?

    Kevin - It occurs with all downloaded resources that should be available when I don't have access to Internet. It's as if the software first looks to see if the resource is available online and gets hung waiting for the internet response, or it has lost track of what is downloaded and assumes the resource is not downloaded and goes to look for it.

    Have you had a chance to look at the logs I submitted? Did they indicate what the problem/ solution might be?

    This issue also occurs on Android. Sometimes the App will close out completely, other times the resources are just not available.

    Please try this:

    1) Go online and navigate to the Home Page.
    2) Enter "rebuild index" into the Reference Field.
    3) Wait a few minutes.

    Then go offline and try again to see what happens.

    Please post this to the Android forum.  The present issue with iOS potentially not seeing previously downloaded resources after an iOS backup/restore from one device to another (along with an iOS upgrade) is entirely different than resources not being available on Android or potentially crashing the Android app (which we are aware of, incidentally, and are working on a fix).

    Kevin - I did those three steps but no change... Resources that were downloaded are not available, resources I remove and redownload work OK.

    Any other suggestions! Did the logs show anything?

    Assuming you installed Logos 5.0.1 before upgrading to iOS 9.1, do you know if this issue occurred before upgrading iOS?

    Hi Kevin;

    When I saw this thread, it appeared to be the same issue that I recently discovered on the Android. Since you are aware of the Android issue, there is no sense in me flooding the forum with another post (being that you are aware of the issue). I'll wait a little while to see what happens after the next beta release.

    It started after I upgraded to iOS 9.1 and then the backup/ restore. On my iPad 2, running ios 8.2, and Logos 5 all was OK. I did the Logos 5 upgrade before the iOS 9 upgrade and I think things were OK, but I don't specifically remember running Logos in that configuration without wifi.

    I entered a case for the mobile dev team... when multiple things change it's hard to determine sometimes where the issue lies but we have your logs so that will help.

    OK, thanks. Is this something I can expect a fix for or do I need to start removing and re-downloading my downloaded resources?

    The "Library" listing knows which resource are downloaded because they're the only ones listed when I'm offline. The meat of the app, however, doesn't see or understand the availability of downloaded resources. A little frustrating.

    Well, I don't really know if/when you can expect a fix.  We just learned of the issue from you and it might take a new version of our apps to fix it, and that's at least a couple weeks out.  I don't think we can fix it on our end but again, I don't really know.

    It turns out that downloaded resources are not saved during an iTunes backup/restore; Apple doesn't allow this.  So you'll (unfortunately) have to download all previously downloaded resources again.

    The app should have prompted you to do this or automatically started downloading the resources again but since you also switched devices (backing up one device and restoring to another), the device registration information might no longer be valid.

    I will try to take a look at this scenario next week but it will take some time and another test device (I have an old iPhone 5 at home I hope to use).

    Well, Kevin, thanks for following up. i understand what you're saying but it certainly was confusing, what I was seeing in the app. The library list understood which resources had been downloaded but that obviously was incorrect. It would have been helpful that when the portions of the app looking for the download that wasn't really there would have recognized that and prompted me to download.

    I guess another thing this points out is that downloaded resources are not used when connected to wifi because all worked well when I had wifi, even though the resources weren't really available locally. Strange.

    The list of downloaded resources is stored in a database that is part of the app and this was likely carried over when you restored the app to the new device.  So, the app simply read the database and thought the resources were there (but they weren't).

    Well, this is not really the case although I understand your line of thought.  I'll try to explain this to the best of my knowledge.

    Whether offline or online, the app first looks for any downloaded resources that may be available.  If it can't find them locally it will try again to find them online, and this is why those "downloaded" resources (that actually weren't downloaded on your device after the iTunes restore, but the app thought they were because of the db issue) can still be found when you are online - the app tried again to find them online and succeeded. 

    When online, the app first checks to see if there are any resources it can find online (because they will be more up-to-date) and should again prompt you to download any newer versions that are available, but should then simply use the downloaded resources you already have.

    The idea is to never fail to find a resource, if possible, but this is definitely a bug.  In any case I will try to nail down the reproduction steps for this next week.  Thanks for your patience!

    Thanks, Kevin... your reply makes sense. I suspect that when the local resource wasn't found, its "version" wasn't available so when the online resource was found and aversion comparison was made, between online and local, the local not having a version, didn't signal a "lower" version needing replacement.

    Updating the resources one-by-one certainly works to update the individual out-of-date resources, but an option to "Redownload all downloaded resources" would have been helpful.
