Bug in Bible Word Study
In doing a word study on John 1:16 NASB "grace upon grace", the initial alpha of the word 'anti' (upon) is missing in the circle and also in the Definition panel.
I am using Version 4.6.4 build 443 on a Samsung Galaxy 3 Tab.

Further to my comment on Jn. 1:16, I note that the initial alpha of αποστελλω in Mt. 10:40 shows the same phenomenon in the word study definition panel and also the translation circle. Is this common to all Greek words beginning with alpha and has anyone else noticed the issue?

I have now had time to look further into this matter, although I note that there have been no responses to my previous posts.
It seems that when a word study is performed on Android for any Greek word beginning with a vowel, the initial vowel is always missing as described above. The only exception seems to be when the initial vowel is an omicron. In this case, a very interesting phenomenon is presented. A word study on the word οικουμενη as found in Heb. 1:6, for example, retains the initial omicron but omits the following iota both within the circle and in the definition panel. The same is found in Lk. 16:2 when the word οικονομος is examined. Looking at the word ουδε in Rev. 12:8, in the word study the initial omicron is retained and the following upsilon is omitted.
Can someone please enlighten me as to what is happening here?

If your device is running an Android version older than 5.0.0, the Greek text will not render properly in some areas (including Bible Word Study, the Guides, etc). All data shown in the Guides comes from our servers and are web based which means they simply render using the webkit (i.e. web browser) included with Android.
Google finally improved the webkit in Android 5.0.0 to render Greek and Hebrew text correctly. Attached are three screenshots of your examples as shown in Android 5.0.0. This issue is beyond Faithlife's control, unfortunately.

Thanks, Kevin, for the explanation. Unfortunately, my tablet will not upgrade beyond Android version 4.1.2, so I'll just have to put up with the anomalies! [:P]

Thanks Paul,
I appreciate your detailed bug report and am sorry I didn't respond earlier.
If (in the future) you decide to purchase a new Android device I recommend choosing a Google device because they generally have better/longer support for newer Android versions and do not generally rely on vendor-specific customized versions of Android.
As a disclaimer, Faithlife has no connection whatsoever to any hardware vendor - this is simply my personal recommendation.0 -
Thanks again, Kevin. Appreciate your advice: I'll keep it in mind.
