Importing a Custom Bible Translation

I have a Ukrainian translation of the Bible which is not available in Logos.

It is in the proper .docx format and has all the table of contents mapped out.

Is there a way to import this file and have the book names and chapters linked to Biblical references?

The translation is open source and is available online.

Yes, if by 'import' you mean compile it as a Personal Book.

If you insert the proper milestones, it will behave as a proper bible should.

Yes, with varying degrees of difficulty, depending on how consistent the formatting of your document.

First, check out this wiki page: https://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books Pay particular attention to the section on Fields (https://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books#Fields ) and Milestones (https://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books#Milestones ). The Fields will mark bible text for searching. The Milestones will provide an index based on Book-Chapter-Verse.

After reading that, I think it would be helpful to look at some bibles that have been tagged or marked-up by other Logos users, to see how they did it. See the wiki page: https://wiki.logos.com/User_Contributed_Personal_Books . Here is a link to a thread where a modern English bible is posted as a docx: http://community.logos.com/forums/p/36709/327131.aspx#327131 . After seeing those, you'll have a fairly good idea of what's needed.

Once you have tagged your document, you'll need to compile it. See the wiki page https://wiki.logos.com/Personal_Books#Build_the_book . Don't forget to set the Type as Bible and Language as Ukrainian.

If the Old Testament of your bible is based on the Septuagint or contains a deuterocanon, it will have a different versification scheme than Western Protestant OT translations. See this wiki page about verse maps: https://wiki.logos.com/search.aspx?q=verse+map , and maybe someone else might chime in on that aspect.

You'll want to format your Book names in Word (or your word processor) as Heading 1, and the Chapters as Heading 2. The personal book will compile a table of contents with a Book-->Chapter hierarchy.

It is also possible that one of your fellow Ukrainians has already done this, but hasn't posted it to the forums yet or it hasn't been cataloged in the user contribution wiki page (https://wiki.logos.com/User_Contributed_Personal_Books ). Maybe he/she will see this and post it.

EDIT: I should add that tagging goes much faster if the formatting of the document is consistent such that Find & Replace allows you to use formatting similarities to add the tags. There's another really good post on fina & replace, but I can't find it; maybe someone will chime-in on that.

This is the best Ukrainian traslation that I am aware of. It is based on the mazoretic (LXX for the Apocrypha -- which I removed) and a critical text for the New Testament.

One other question: does anyone know how to have the side bar "Locator Bar" display the abbreviated version of a book rather than the whole title?

I have just received a confirmation and permission, via email, from the organization in Ukraine who owns the right to the translation.

They are more than willing to allow the translation to be added to the library.

I'm assuming there are additional requirements and papers that need to be signed?

(Ukrainians are not as stringent with copyright, especially with biblical resources

After you have followed the suggestion in the other thread (https://community.logos.com/forums/p/36654/1224897.aspx#1224897 ), go ahead and post your docx here, using the paper-clip icon above. If you still have the email with permissions to share from 2015, maybe paste the relevant portion here for comfort regarding copyrights.

[Edit] Lest I leave the impression that this will get that bible in Logos, let me clarify: The first step of entering a formal suggestion per the other thread might eventually result in Logos availability. Attaching the docx here will allow others to create a Personal Book of the bible right now.
