Exit out of Android App

Hi, All

I feel a little silly, but I cannot find and exit button to exit the Android App. I must use my HOme button and use a task killer, which could cause an eventual crash, or use the back button all the way through the pages to finally exit the App. That is usually a LOT of pages. I have a Galaxy S2 with Version 4.0.3.

Is there an simple way to exit from the App?

Thank you!

I have not found any secret way to quickly exit out, other than to press the home button. Backing out is not a very good way to exit because it will often cause you to lose your reading position once it syncs.

    Thanks, Erwin

Backing out is very inconvenient, and as you said, I lose my reading position. Have you had any problems closing the App through a Task Manager if you need to free up the resources on your device?

Hi Thomas; You're welcome. I'm glad that I could answer the question. [:)]

I don't immediately exit out of the application through the task manager, but I often use the task manager after I have exited by pressing the home button. Doing it this way, I have never had any problems. I have also been using for the past month, an application called 360 Security on my Android phone and tablet. It works very well and is free, however, anyone using it must be careful with the cleanup function, which clears temporary files and the cache. If you use such an application, you must exclude the Faithlife apps, as it does something (not sure exactly what) to your downloaded resources in that whenever you go to read one of them, it will say that it is not available in offline mode (although you may be online). I guess the safest way is to just use the included Android task killer.

BTW: Welcome to the forums. [:)]

I once raised the issue to user voice:

    https://logosmobile.uservoice.com/forums/190765-logos-mobile-apps/suggestions/4519911-android-clean-exit

So apparently sending the app to the background is sufficient - no need to close manually.

... I cannot find and exit button to exit the Android App ...

    Hi Thomas.

You've already got answers, but I'll try to take it a bit further for you.

My understanding is that Android apps are not supposed to have an Exit option. Google wants to manage your Android memory for you and decide which apps to close and which to leave open for fast loading next time. For example, earlier versions of Firefox for Android used to have a Quit option on the menu, but they had to remove it to comply with what Google stated. For those who want it, there is still and add-on that adds a Quit option to the menu in Firefox for Android, but you have to actually add it as an add-on.

So, I'm guessing that Faithlife is trying  comply with what Google wants by not giving us a menu item to quit. In my experience, there is no drama in manually killing the Faithlife app (despite the Android warning designed to discourage you from doing so).

I do kill the Faithlife apps (Bible, Vyrso, etc) occasionally. In the past, we had to do so before a new purchase showed up in the library, but this doesn't seem to be necessary with the more recent versions. Most of the time, I'm really glad to have it still in memory for instant loading.

Hope that helps calm any concerns you may have about not having a Quit menu option.

    Thank you, Everyone

These responses all hit the nail on the head. Thank you so much for your help. You all have taken away the concern that I had about leaving the App running in the background and/or killing the process with a task manager. It just seemed a little strange to not have an exit button, but now it makes sense.

Thank you, and May the Lord richly Bless you!
