Bug: Visual filters can slow things down even when not turned on
I recently created some visual filters with the idea of doing a source analysis of Luke; ie I had generated lists of verse references for M, Q, L and then created a visual filter for each searching for * in that specific search range ESV.
Obviously this would slow things down; however I was surprised upon opening Logos 4 today and opening ESV that the CPU started churning at 100% despite these visual filters being turned off. There was nothing in the log to indicate what was happening, the only way to stop it was to delete the visual filters before re-opening the ESV (after which it is back to normal).
Obviously creating visual filters for * even for a limited verse range is not a great idea performance wise but I don't see why it would give a performance hit if the visual filter isn't turned on...

I am just curious if you set the visual filter for only one bible or for all of them? And if for all of them, did you make sure it was turned off in all bibles, not just the bible you were working in? This is probably not the problem, but worthy of asking.

so turning off or turning on doesn't make a difference but actually DELETING the filters does?

I have a bunch of dormant visual filters created...I'm going to check it out...

I remember also seeing a thread or two where people had problems with a particular bible loading very slowly, perhaps it could be related... Here we go:

The search is executed to determine if the menu item should even appear at all. Right now, we don't have an easy way of optimising a search for "*" to see if it would return any hits.
It's possible that the upcoming Passage Lists feature may address what you're trying to do. Until then, an alternative could be to delete the visual filter, and instead drag the equivalent Search to Favorites. If you ever need to "turn that visual filter on", load the Search from Favorites, which will run it and display the hit highlights.
