Synchronizing highlighting

For some reason I can't see on my laptop the highlighting that I did on my IPad. Is there a way to synchronize this?

I am using the Logos Bible! app.

Please follow the steps Kevin outlines at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/113554.aspx to give us more information regarding the problem area

Do you know which Notes document contains the highlights made on the iPad?

If you open that document on your laptop do you see the highlights in it? Is the document enabled in the Visual Filter menu for the resource on the laptop?

If you don't know how to find the answers to these questions please post back and we can advise further

I followed Kevin's steps. I see that my highlights on my laptop are the same as those on http://documents.logos.com. Those on my iPad are not synced to this documents page. So it is a mobile sync issue, I suppose.

I am only talking about recent highlighting. Most of my highlighting is synced.

Are the recent highlights stored in a different Notes document to earlier ones?

They are in the same Highlighter Pens document.

what happens if you create a new Notes document and put highlights there?

    Do they get synced?

Graham, O that I could know a fraction of your knowledge about Logos! You usually seem to have the answer.

In fact, I didn't create a new notes doc (not sure how to do that on my IPad), but I opened an existing notes doc.

Now the question is how to get my laptop connected to the earlier notes doc.

And how to get my iPad connected to the laptop notes.

    Thanks Myke[:)]

But in this case it didn't really solve the problem - just part of the diagnosis!

In fact, I didn't create a new notes doc (not sure how to do that on my IPad), but I opened an existing notes doc.

To create a new notes doc on the iPad you can do a couple of things:

    • In the resource itself, double-click on a word and move the selection handles to select a passage, choose the "Note" option from the popup, scroll down to the "Document" section of the note creation dialog, tap the arrow to the right and click the "+" in the top right
    • Go to the Documents menu, click the "+" at the top-right and choose "Notes"

Now the question is how to get my laptop connected to the earlier notes doc.

Roughly how big do you think the notes document is - and (this may sound a strange question) why do you think the highlights aren't syncing?

And how to get my iPad connected to the laptop notes.

I didn't realise it wasn't working the other way - can you provide some more details? Which Notes document, etc?

I am thinking the highlights are not syncing, because the highlights that are on my ipad don't show up on my laptop and also not on http://documents.logos.com. And the highlights that I did on my laptop, don't show up on my Ipad.

The doc is called Highlighter Pens.
On http://documents.logos.com it has just over 4900 notes (highlighting). When I opened it on my Ipad, the App crashed when I scrolled down to the bottom. So maybe the list is too long?

There might be also something else that might shed light on the issue:

Very recently the Ipad app failed to update. It crashed and disappeared from my Ipad. I tried to reinstall it, but I failed to do. Only after a few days it worked again. The highlighting I did from that moment didn't sync both ways (laptop <> Ipad). But, the laptop is syncing with http://documents.logos.com

It sounds like you suffer from "large note" syndrome. This happens frequently to users who: 1) are prolific in highlighting and 2) are using the awful default setting of "pallet specific" note documents. For most users this is fixed by switching to "resource specific" note documents... But:

    1) you would need to either manually move the current notes to the new folders OR delete the old docs and start from scratch

    2) if you are prolific in highlighting in a single translation (I.e you use Kay Arthur's inductive bible study method where you are making highlights on many single words), you would need to come up with a different system... At least for your bible (I.e one document per biblical book)

    • That sounds more or less the same work? I mean, how can you move these notes easily and quickly to a new notes doc? One by one, isn't it? Also, I can't reach the bottom of this doc on my Ipad. It looks to me I have to open my Ipad and my laptop side by side and manually highlight the text on my laptop and finding a way to remove these old highlights on my Ipad.
    • How can I tell Logos on my laptop it has to put all these new highlights in a resource specific notes doc? EDIT: I found out how to do this (by opening the highlight panel and save the highlighter pens to this resource specific notes doc).

I am reading lots of books and do a lot of highlighting. That caused this high number. This resource specific note doc sound helpful.

I assume I would have a problem also for the My Notes doc as well, since that is not just highlighting, but also a lot of text? Morris Proctor once wrote a training blog about how to create a study bible document, named, 'My Notes' the default doc. But what I have to do now is to make a new notes doc for every biblical book.

I'm afraid they do need to be moved individually

Also, I can't reach the bottom of this doc on my Ipad. It looks to me I have to open my Ipad and my laptop side by side and manually highlight the text on my laptop and finding a way to remove these old highlights on my Ipad.

If you tap a highlight on the ipad you get a popup menu - the icon on the left enables you to delete the note

EDIT: I found out how to do this (by opening the highlight panel and save the highlighter pens to this resource specific notes doc).

Note that on the laptop - as you have found - this setting is done at the palette level while on the iPad it is done at the app level (in Settings)

But what I have to do now is to make a new notes doc for every biblical book.

If you have that level of highlighting then I would recommend this approach but - in that case, you wouldn't be able to use the resource-specific notesfile for highlighting you would need to select the one relevant to the biblical book you are highlighting in

I am not highlighting the Bible, but if I do, I would still use the resource specific notes doc. But instead of writing all my written notes in one huge 'My Notes' doc, I have to create more than one.
