Macbook - rapid battery drain / overheating after installation of Logos 6

Dear Friends,

I recently installed Logos 6 onto my Macbook and was shocked at an unexpected side effect ! What used to be an 8 hour workday for my Macbook, became barely 2-3 hours with overheating of the underside. Even after quitting the program my guess is the program tries to run in the background especially when the computer is connected to the internet. I looked around to 'force quit' but it didn't show up there. It showed up hogging about 50 percent of the CPU and memory while running. But what puzzled me was its effect on the computer even when the application appears to be closed. It would be great if you could share your thoughts and experiences on this - as this single thing can push me to dump such an amazing study tool !

When Logos is first installed, it needs to create an index. This can take several hours, depending on the speed of your computer, and it will tax your CPU. After the indexing is done (many users leave it to run overnight), Logos shouldn't tax your CPU that much.

How long has it been since installing Logos? Is there a little blue icon in your menu bar? Clicking on that icon will tell you how much indexing is left.

    EDIT: Welcome to forums!

    EDIT 2:

But what puzzled me was its effect on the computer even when the application appears to be closed.

The indexer will run even when the main application is closed until it is finished with the index, after which it will only run when there are new resources to index. Be patient!

    Thanks for your reply !

The post was not about the initial installation issue - that anyway took about 4-6 hours - first for downloading and then the indexing. But the issue was AFTER the download and indexing - the heating issue and battery drain exists /persists ! I had installed it mid-December and the indexing was done on the first day itself. But the overheating and battery drain continued till date.

Also the home page scroll is 'choppy' - indicating a huge resource hog !

Do let me know it there are technical issues with the Logos software - which lets it ping the internet without consent !

(I did switch to Standard Gold from PC which again started the cycle of Indexing yesterday - but my query was about its effect after all this 'housekeeping' stuff is done, why it's still overheating)

    Thanks, RKS

    Couple things:

    1) We need to see your logs. In my signature line, below, are instructions on how to gather your logs and post them here on the forums.

    2) If you turn off your wifi for awhile, how does Logos run? Do the symptoms go away?

I noticed it happening even when I am doing other tasks like mailing or browsing. I guess I'd have to try it with the wifi off - though in real life situations wonder when you would want to be disconnected especially your mail and browser being usually active.

Couldn't see the instructions for getting the log - I could click on your log but there was nothing else there.

I was just curious what it would do as a test.

You need to click on the "Mac" by "Post Logs." Here's the link: https://www.logos.com/support/logos6/mac/report-problem

Thanks - am downloading the log utility and hope we could find some solutions based on the findings.

Off to bed - would catch up later. Thanks.
