TIP of the day: Parallel major Bible traditions
For background see: TIP of the day: Oldies but goodies from the Logos Blogs; yes, you may run into some minor problems which have been reported as bugs but for most users this will not matter.
1. There are several traditions with their own base translations that data back to the early centuries of Christianity:
- Judaism - Masoretic text (Hebrew), now the standard base OT text in the Western Church
- Oriental Churches - Peshitta (Syriac)
- Byzantine Churches - LXX (Greek)
- Western Churches - Vulgate (Latin)
- other relevant editions: Targums and Dead Sea Scrolls
To make a collection of English versions of these versions, I use the rule: (abbrev:(NRSV, DSSB, LEB, LES, D-R)) OR (series:"Antioch Bible" AND lang:English) to which I manually add The Targums of Onkelos and Jonathan Ben Uzziel on the Pentateuch; With the Fragments of the Jerusalem Targum: From the Chaldee.
The D-R represents the Vulgate tradition, the LEB the Masoretic tradition. The NRSV is included as my preferred version for comparison. Your choices may be different based on the languages you are comfortable in, the contents of your library and personal preferences.
2. This collection can be used in the Text Comparison Tool to create a quick overview of the text in various traditions. Note besides the well known additional books, the additions to Esther & Daniel, you will find significant differences in Jeremiah and Acts. What traditions appear is dependent upon the specific text.
(Note the verse numbers in the LES)
3. It is worth dragging this basic Bible tradition comparison onto the toolbar as a shortcut.
4. Similarly you can create a multi-view panel with the same list of translations. Note I use the NRSV as the base translation because it has the most inclusive contents. Unlike the Text Comparison, here if the reference does not occur in the base translation, it will not display.
5. Again the columns that show is dependent upon the chosen passage.
Again you may wish to make a shortcut.

Unfortunately collections are in alphabetical order. I wish we could order them as we need.

Collections do not have any order. You can display them in arbitrary order by clicking the column headers, just like in your library. This doesn't affect any place that uses collections.
For the Text Comparison window, you can get the desired order by entering each of the resources in the desired order rather than using a collection.

Ah, yes. I had assumed that he was talking of the order of the collection in the Text comparison not in the Collection itself. I hadn't put the two together.

and yes M.J. I'm talking about the Order of the Collection. If I do it like Andrew sayed I have to do it every Time I run Comparison, but if I could have the right Order in my Collection I would have it every Time.

You could also save the Text Comparison tool as a Short Cut, Bookmark, or Favorite, or in a Layout in order to preserve your desired order of resources.

I found a Way to have Textcomparsion show my Way...well not for 500 Bibles but for 8 - 10 [;)]
I changed the Title and put a Number in Front...that's how it Looks
