How does searching in Android work for you?
Searches are indefinitely long on my tablet and I pretty much always give up whenever I try one. For instance, last Sunday in church. I ran a basic search on "bar mitzvah" all library, but had to give up, after waiting for 5 minutes. Then searched for "my father" in one Bible, ESV (I tried LEB later), same deal.
I run an Intel based tablet, the Dell Venue 8, and I am wondering if it is part of the problem? I would be interested in hearing about others' experience with searches offline in the Android app.

When this happened, was the wifi setting on your tablet turned off?

Yes, I was searching offline. Don't tell me that even searching requires to be online?!!?

Searching on Android devices has been such a pain for me in the past that I no longer use the search functionality. Searches either take too long (several minutes), or I have to choose among specific resources with names like HHH or ISB1100. In my experience, either I search "Everything" and wait wait wait, or I have to spend time figuring out which long string of characters is associated with the specific resource I want to search. Both are a pain.
For me, the two big weaknesses of the Android apps are the lack of support for offline dictionary lookups and the poor search functionality.
And yes, I'm sure there's a uservoice poll I could cast my vote at somewhere..

No, searching works offline. The reason I asked whether or not wifi was turned off on your device is that being offline because your device can't find a connection isn't the same as having wifi turned off on your device (and therefore, your device isn't looking for a connection).

How many resources do you have downloaded locally to your device?

Thanks, Kevin, for the reply. I have 206 resources downloaded. I use a widget on my home screen to turn off wifi (to save power) when I leave home, so yes, wifi was off.

This is what I'm seeing when searching for "my father" in the LEB when the device is in airplane mode: https://monosnap.com/file/5A1pSiuUssagCuLPZ486snib45CTge . The search result appears almost instantly, so I'm puzzled why it's taking minutes for you.

Does the widget you use actually turn all network related access off on your device - what about cellular? You might try going into settings and turning on Airplane mode and then trying your search again.

Airplane mode does not solve the issue, but some interesting things happened as I experimented. It tried "my Father" ESV - took a while, no result. Same but in LEB, same outcome. Tried to do it from Basic rather than Bible search, same result. Then tried to search Top Bibles in Bible mode, got results, the first page was all ESV! Switched from Top Bibles to ESV: instantaneous results. Switched to LEB, likewise!?! Tried two unpreviously tested Bibles (NKJV, NRSV): instantaneous! I exited the app, went back and tried again and got almost instantaneous results. I will keep an eye on this in the next while to see whether the problem is somehow (and inexplicably to me) solved or whether it returns to the previous behavior.
In the meantime, I was wondering if you could help me make sense of the resource picker in search. The resource are not alphabetical. I am not sure what the order is supposed to be. Also, when searching in Bible mode, the list still contain every resource, not just Bibles. What gives?

The resources most recently used are shown at the top of the list.

Hi Kevin, sorry for the tardy reply. I had the problem yet again yesterday. The search took long enough that I gave up (it was a simple Bible search) and when I go to choose a resource I see (1) All resources listed, not just Bibles (in Bible search) and (2) the order is NOT the order of use. Proof of it is that I have to scroll down to find the Bibles I commonly use whereas some volumes I have not used for a long time (Tyndale commentaries) are at the top.
I am running 5.1.2.

Yes, I met the same problem as Francis did,
Any way that could easily choose the exact resource to do the search?
I've downloaded all the resources I have, the quality in library shows 5527, how I can choose the resources quickly or the app do search and list the results filtered by resources category?
Thank you.
Best regards.
Davy
