Windows 10 - Verbum Indexer shows twice in Notifications?
See picture - why in Settings > System > Notifications & actions > Notifications do you think Verbum has two entries in the list? How can this be fixed or is it a bug?

The Logos Bible Software Indexer is also duplicated.

I just noticed this again. I'm up to 9 entries now. I haven't dug in to it yet; does anyone know the process to manually remove these?

I couldn't find an obvious place in Registry or the file system, so I trust Faithlife will take care of that

I did just find that deleting the following key will completely reset the list. EVERYTHING will be removed from the Show Notifications section.
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications\AppDB
This is NOT a good solution, but it's all I've seen so far.

EDIT: Again: Deleting the key above is not a good solution or a good idea. It removes ALL Push Notification controls. At least back up if you try. Some of these can be restored by applying the registry edit linked below. This is closer to a decent fix as it adds back the Windows apps but you will still lose many settings for installed apps. I have not yet found any way to manually edit the AppDB key to remove individual entries and it's a bit to large for trial and error approach.

Microsoft didn't want (rogue) applications to override your settings and keep making their icon visible, so there's no way for us to clean up the old entries. Unfortunately, it also appears that Microsoft built no UI for users to clean up the old entries, either.
I believe the (encrypted) settings (for all applications) are stored in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TrayNotify\IconStream. I haven't tried it, but deleting that value may clear up the menu. (I'd highly recommend backing it up first.)

I backed up and tried this, it did not appear to change anything (I now have 6 entries for the indexer). Also, even after running it the value was still empty (maybe I had to reboot to actually try it as the value could have been cached, but I got scared and reverted back).

I think that key determines which app icons are shown or hidden in the icon tray. I'm pretty sure the key
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications\AppDB
is the correct one for the list of notification controls. I think my previous assumption that Apps are added to this list at installation and thus lost when deleted was wrong. I now think that it is OK to delete this key. The first time an app broadcasts a toast notification, Windows automatically adds it to the Notification control list. However, deleting that key will stop notifications from Windows builtin apps like calender. There is a registry fix for that. The steps to fix seem to be:
- Backup up HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications\
- Delete HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PushNotifications\AppDB
- Download this Zipped Registry File, unzip it, and double click, Allowing it to append the registry.
- Restart windows (or terminate and re-run Explorer.exe)
This seems to be working. Several apps, including Logos, have toasted notifications and have been automatically restored to the list. The only odd thing I notice is that the Logos notification is slightly off screen on the bottom now and I'm pretty sure it wasn't like that before, but I wouldn't expect this change to alter that.
It does seem from what I've read that this is not fixable by Logos software; there's no programmatic access to edit the database. The whole DB must be wiped out and that is beyond the scope of what an app should do. However, I hope there is some way to stop the continued duplication.

There is, and we're working as hard as possible to get it into 6.7. Unfortunately, every release (including SRs) that we ship before then will add a duplicated notification setting for all Windows 10 users. (This is a new problem in Windows 10 that we didn't catch during the its beta.)

This is fixed in 6.7, which has just shipped.

I am a software developer and our users are also finding this to be an issue for them. Some users report having 5 or more duplicate notifications of our app.
Would you be able to share how you stopped the duplication. i have done a fair bit of research and not found a genuine solution to include in our installer or into the app itself.

(I'm away from my desk to check, but from memory...) In Windows 10, the icon notification settings are stored in an encrypted map, where the key is the exact full path to the EXE. (You'd think they'd use AppUserModelIDs, but no such luck.) If the path to your program changes (e.g., when installing a new version), you'll get a duplicate notification icon setting.

I have the latest version of Logos 6 (i.e., 6.10 SR-2 or 6.10.0.0041) and this issue is NOT fixed under Windows 10 Professional for me! In fact, I continue to have FIVE instances of "Logos Bible Software Indexer On: Banners, Sounds" appearing under Notifications & actions in System Settings.

In looking through the Microsoft forums, this is apparently a Windows 10 operating system bug that Microsoft has yet to resolve or even properly acknowledge:
For those who can spare the time, I recommend you try to get a hold of Microsoft to pester them to fix their OS bug. Apparently, there is nothing further that Logos can do to resolve it.
