Comparable volume to Bruce's Apostle of the Heart Set Free
Can anyone recommend a comparable volume to F.F. Bruce's Apostle of the Heart Set Free ?
I'm looking more for a bio than Paul's theology. I have some of those.

May not be what you're looking for but John G Butler volume on Paul is good also the face-2-face series two volume on Paul both are more like biographies:

- John Pollock's The Apostle: The Life of Paul is a good read. A fair bit simpler than Bruce.
- John McRay's Paul: His Life and Teaching is even more scholarly than Bruce. Half the book is on Paul's life (260 pages), the other half is on his theology.
- There's a similar book with the same title from Udo Schnelle. I've not read it, but it looks even more dense than McRay, and will be coming from a less evangelical perspective.
- Robert Reymond's Paul, Missionary Theologian also has a similar structure, but there's more theology in the 'life' section than in McRay.
I'd recommend one of the first two, depending on how whether you want popular or academic.

Looks like a great book, BUT Way to pricey for the milkman. Good suggestion though.

Sorry milkman, I didn't see this thread, but i see that someone has already given you a response in another thread. The Butler volume is great and as mentioned, expository in nature, so you cant go wrong; especially if you want to preach an "expository biography" series on Paul as opposed to a topical one. I cannot comment on the face2face volumes on Paul because i just got them recently so I have yet to use them. For the price both are great, but I'd go with Butler if I didn't own it.
