Logos app, v 5.1.3, iOS crashes on startup

So I have had no issues with the Logos iOS app until this last update, 5.1.3. I have resprung, rebooted, deleted and redownloaded but ever since updating to 5.1.3, the app crashes immediately after launch. Customer service was no help because they gave me the regular "press home button, manually close app on app switcher, restart" or they asked if I had an internet connection. Needless to say I have tried all these things long before I contacted them. I assume since they never replied again it was because no solution was available. Here are my specs:

iPhone 6 plus (jailbroken - no new tweaks added since crash---and it has worked fine with all previous versions)

ios 8.4.0

Logos Software 5.1.3

I can't even get to the sign in screen before the app crashes to the springboard. Any ideas? If not, anyone have the 5.1.2 or lower .ipa I can use to replace this buggy version?

    Hi John,

Welcome to the forums.  We don't support jailbroken iOS devices or rooted Android devices.  I will attempt to reproduce this issue on a non-jailbroken iOS 8.4 device but if the issue doesn't occur there's nothing we can do on our end.  We also don't distribute ipa files or apk files directly.

I am unable to reproduce this issue so no app fixes are required.

    Kevin,

FWIW, I've experienced more instability and flakiness in this latest Bible! app release than I can remember. Running iOS 9.2 on an iPad Air 2 - *not* jailbroken.

If I had to guess, based on the visual artifacts, it's related to the support for swiping in from the right to support multi-tasking in iOS. When opening the app (not necessarily starting it - it's generally already running), I'll get a single "column" of text along the left side of the screen (not an app column - the width of the swipe-in screen); then the app goes to the home page. This in spite of the fact that I almost never go to the home page, and when I last switched out of the app it was on the reading screen.

I have been reading in the Bible! app for multiple hours per day, most days a week, for 3-4 years now; and I've never seen any behavior like this. Further, the app has hung iOS to the point of complete unresponsiveness a few times. One time it was so bad that nothing happened for 4-5 minutes (I couldn't even initiate a hard shutdown). After that, a whole bunch of queued-up events were queued up. I did a hard shutdown at that point. I've still experienced the milder problems since then, as described above, with occasional stalls of unresponsiveness for a few seconds.

When did you last perform a clean install of the app?

I have deleted and reinstalled the app pretty much everyday (probably at least ten times). I purchased the desktop Logos base package and pretty much used this app whenever I needed to reference a Bible verse but couldn't remember where it was found. I used it to teach my youth Bible class, at work when discussing Bible related topics and other times in my morning devotions when I wasn't near my PC. It is unfortunate that I can't get support simply because I like tweaks that allow me to text quickly, get a better NC overview, and change my layout as I want On my home screen. I keep hoping the next update will fix this, whatever it is  Meanwhile I am searching the web for a 5.1.2 (or older) ipa file. I wish I had saved the old one before the update. I also wonder if the problem is from me not being able told deleye the file completely. I could use iFile to fix it but I don't know where the files are kept.

I will see if I can repro this.  Could you please use "Report a Problem" under the Help menu so we can take a look at your device logs?  Please reference this thread and put "Attention: Kevin Byford" in the email so our support team knows I requested the log.

This is the risk of deciding to jailbreak an iOS device. You permanently lose Apple Support for your device (even if you un-jailbreak it), and apps that work properly on non-jailbroken devices sometimes won't work. Have you considered asking support of the developers who wrote the jailbreak software?

I'm more than willing to do this. However, I can't. And I've made this point a few times over the years since I've been using Bible!. It assumes some kind of email is set up in the base iOS email app configuration. I don't have any email set up there - just the GMail app.

    FYI...

That's unfortunate.  Is there something preventing you from configuring/using the Apple Mail client?

Clearly you don't know what jail breaking entails. The compatibility issues don't render the phone unstable and the reversal process is undetectable by Apple. I have exchanged phones for hardware issues after restoring the phone. I'm not here to debate the issues but your refusal to not offer app support for your app isn't right.

You should have an iCloud email address and if you don't currently have one, you can secure one.

    John,

Your jailbroken phone is in fact unstable because our app crashes on startup, and this doesn't happen on a standard iOS 8.4 install.  If you wish to use Faithlife Software in a supported manner, please install a supported version of iOS.

An account? Other apps can "share to" the gmail app. I'd have thought Bible! could do that by now. Or better yet, and more generally, "share to" anything that can take the data format (text???). Then I could send it to Evernote, Gmail, etc.

There's a ton of ways I could get an email address to enable the Apple email client. a) I don't want to, especially just to submit logs from the Bible! app; b) I shouldn't have to - there are many ways to do intra-app data sharing in iOS.

Yes, there is a little bit of me taking a stand on principle here. It's a really bad assumption for FL to expect everyone to have an email address to use with the Apple email client. How many people have only gmail addresses and who logically would only use the gmail app?

I don't really care to get into an argument here over that, but it is kind of silly. If you want support, send in the logs! Outside of that, try reinstalling the app.

The Bible! app has supported iOS share sheets for a while regarding resource content, but Report a Problem doesn't and there isn't much of a reason for it to (unless you really enjoy sharing our apps' device logs with other apps).  It's up to you - if you don't want to use the Apple Mail client that's okay but that also means we can't look at your app logs.

Maybe someone at FL could look at your internal analytics for how many (and what percent) of your app users have gmail addresses. That has been my argument as the reason FL should not restrict problem submissions to the single mechanism of the default iOS mail client.

Such analytics wouldn't be informative since the Apple Mail client works fine with gmail addresses, just as the Gmail client works fine with Yahoo email addresses, and the Yahoo mail client works fine with Apple addresses.  You are the only person I've ever heard mention this to be a problem but as I mentioned, it's okay.  We don't want to force you to do anything you don't want to.

Since Faithlife doesn't "support" jail broken phones, does anyone still have the 5.1.2 ipa file for iOS? It would be in your trash if you haven't cleared it since the update. Unfortunately I emptied my trash for space reasons before I verified that the Logos app worked.
