I recently got a 5k imac. The only thing that isn't pretty much instantaneous is trying to mouse-over a commentary in passage guide. It's like the program can't keep up with the speed of the computer. You have to wait for every commentary in between to have its background lit up as it tries to catch up with where the mouse is. Just a minor frustration though. The best thing is that you don't even notice the program indexing!
You might want to wait, or not, Apple's possible this month refresh is imminent. If there's a great price deal, I'd go for it.
I have until around the end of March to make up my mind. They're offering me the config in the $4,600-4,700 price range (which is really good).
I was going to go with a 5K iMac, but I have a nice 27" monitor on my desk (not 5K but still nice, plus I could always get a 5K display if Apple will release one down the road), and for a little extra, I can get one powerful machine.
I was just wondering if it was fast enough for Logos. ;-)

That'll be great. I just got a 5K iMac which isn't really all that powerful compared to the MacPro. Like has been said, you might want to hold off and see what new Mac Pro comes out. When it's released the old one should plummet in price...or you may decide to go ahead and get the new system
I re-calculated my offer, and I'm only saving an extra $100 off my regular discounts by buying it "soon". I say it's worth waiting to see if a new model drops. The new model may long term give me more bang for my buck and a better long term investment. What I'd like to do if I can wait is wait and get one pre-installed with the next version of OS X. While I don't have to pay to upgrade, just not dealing with the upgrade hassle would be nice.

It definitely is, and I can pretty much do it with my eyes closed, but if I can get it done for me, all the merrier. :-)
The more I research, the more I do say wait. The Mac Pro came out Late 2013, so it's due for a refresh. My MacBook Pro is probably about to get a new logic board due to the graphics card exchange program, so between than and my iMac, I should have enough functional machines to last me until I spring for one.
Contrary to anything I thought I'd ever do, I actually "jumped ship" and went to a Windows workstation from Dell (Precision tower) versus getting a Mac Pro. I'm having to get used to Windows after ten years of primarily using a Mac, but Windows 10 has been running well, and I'm getting acquainted with it and settling in.
The Dell Precision has some excellent specs on it (2TB flash storage, 64GB ECC RAM, 8 Core Xeon Processor, 8GB NVIDIA graphics chip). Logos runs beautifully on it. The majority of my searches are instant, with the rest that take a couple moments still far faster than any machine I've ever used. I'm also going to be getting into more high-end video with Premiere and some higher end weather graphics programs, so the extra video power and RAM will be luxurious for those as well.
