What happens to Typo reports?

I have been using Carson's "For the Love of God" Volumes One and Two for my daily devotions for several years. Occasionally I see and report a typographical error like the one above. In this case a hyphen causes a line feed and it clearly is not needed here.

No correction has been made although I receive notification that the report has been received. What gives?

In general, typo reports are received and logged and then, when the resource is updated, all of the typos will be included in that process.

So the reports are helpful but we don't actually know when they will be incorporated into a release.

In fact there have been times when I have reported 2 or more typos in one day from different resources (all while logged in and connected) and have only received by email a typo receipt for my first one. It does make you feel like you're wasting your effort when you're trying to improve the resource for future readers.

I would love someone from Faithlife to give assurance that all typo reports are received and (in an ideal situation) acted on within a certain time frame.

In addition, I think it's a pity that the typo report function is hidden in a scroll-down section rather than being immediately visible because many users probably aren't aware of it.

FL only sends one typo report confirmation out in a 24 hour period; subsequent reports the same day don't get one, but they should still be logged. (I think the email says something to that effect.)

Ah, they must have changed it. Earlier ones definitely said they'd only send out one a day.

These days I delete the mails without reading as soon as they come in, so I hadn't noticed the change.

I wish typos were fixed a lot quicker too, but FL has the responsibility to correct typos in the electronic format, not errors in the original as published. So, even though the reader can quickly tell when something is obviously wrong, FL still has to check against the original before they change it, which must take time and necessitate some prioritization of limited resources for the task.

If this is generally the case, then I am very disappointed.

Surely someone from Faithlife can come on here and let us know that it is not so! Isn't correcting (together with updating and improved tagging ) one of the reasons these resources cost so much more than ebooks?

We certainly could ask Kyle to respond to this thread. I doubt that there is a fixed time frame within which they are acted upon. Some cannot be changed because they are in the print edition. Unless the print edition is corrected Faithlife cannot make the change. Others are in books that are already in the queue for updating the tagging etc. so those will usually be handled along with the tagging. I suspect that resources broadly owned will get fixed before those with lower ownership - everything else being equal. I would also suspect that resources broadly used in seminaries get a bit of priority.

We do receive all of the typo reports. They go directly into a data base organized by resource ID. We receive not only the reports but also the proposed correction if it is given.

When a resource receives a full update, all typo reports are compared against the print.

As far as when a typo might be fixed--that's a hard question to answer because there a lot of factors in play. The biggest factors are usually the popularity of a resource and the numbers of typos reported (two factors that go hand-in-hand).

I know how dusty my paper books get sitting on the shelf so I can't imagine how dusty this would get.

I wish! I'd never leave the office!

We do have a print library but it is relatively small. There are some pretty books laying around like the Jerusalem Talmud you can find in my office but overall it's small compared to our overall library of books available for purchase.

We survive mostly on PDFs which aren't particularly exciting but don't take up much space and are easily shared.
