How can I turn off syncing to iPad - Explaination inside

Good Evening!

I use Logos on my iPad very differently than I use it on my desktop.

On my iPad, I use it as a reading tool. For example, I am currently working my way through reading J Vernon McGee's Thru The Bible Series in parallel with the ISV, a new (to me) translation.

On my desktop, I am currently working my way through the 30 day training.

When I open Logos on my iPad at bedtime to continue my reading, my bible passage has moved to the last location I had open on my Desktop.

I realize that this is useful for some uses but I find it to be a minor annoyance. I would love to be able to choose when to let the iPad 'catch up'. For example, when I have just finished a book or chapter and can easily remember where I was.

Is there a way to turn off syncing on the iPad?

I have read that if I turn off 'Use The Internet' on the desktop, it will prevent syncing. But will this prevent updates of software and resources?

Your desktop setting does impact your mobiles, communicating desktop items. But usually your desktop needs more contact with the Logos mothership.Better to turn on the airport icon on the Apple mobile. I keep my Logos apps offline and delete from memory, except for resource loads.

Similar to Desktop, if you keep your iPad offline it won't sync.

There is no in-app setting to disable sync.

Not really. You could ALWAYS run in airplane mode.

Yes.

FWIW - I have long been a proponent of the concept of "projects" coming to Logos. This would be the best solution to your problem, imo. Each mobile app would have a default "mobile" (device specific) project, so all resource location info would stay put until you changed to a different "project." On the other hand, if you are working on a sermon for this week, next week, and a wedding, you could open any of those "projects" and go to the resource location for each respective project.

Simpler for the developers, not for the user. Nor is it more powerful. It is the duct tape solution.

Take a pastor or student who is juggling three projects. (In reality, it may be many more). That user may use a subset of the same resources for each project. The SINGLE reason I use and recommend Logos is it's functionality as a "research library." (I could care less about any of the other bells and whistles FL adds each year. In fact, I'd prefer not to have them in many cases because I know time could have been spent on developing what should be the core of the app... But I know that it is those bells & whistles that pay the bills.)

As a library management tool, FL hasn't done much to further their product. I've had conversations with Bob and others for about three years on this subject, but not much changes. Sigh.

Related to the mobile app: you know how much time I have spent in the forums trying to help users understand how the sync location works... It doesn't really seem to work the way anyone would expect it to. [:s]

You may wish to create a new post in the Suggestions forum as this has now fallen a little far from the tree of helping Dean with a "minor annoyance".

I am unaware of your conversations with Bob and others over the last three years, and I'm not sure why you brought it up, but as far as I know we're not looking for a new Desktop/Mobile Library Management Sync Architect (is that the job you want?).

Yes, I am fully aware of how much time you have spent in the forums trying to help users understand many different things, as you personally know. If you don't, you know my email and lets discuss this further if you wish.

I handled the same problem by using Favorites. When I finish reading my Bible reading on my iPad mini, I swipe up over the last verse read, and "add to favorites." Then, I swipe from the left to bring up the Favorites panel and delete my previous Bible Favorite. (Favorites is under the Tools menu and stays on Favorites until you change it to Library or something else). All in all, the process now takes me less than 10 seconds.
