Scrolling on ANDROID

Vertical scrolling is really bad on Android. It does not matter which device; I have tried it on three different Android device models. It jumps every time you try to scroll up, so that you lose your place for a second. It is also very choppy. I am not sure why it is this way because it scrolls as smooth as butter on the iPhone.

Not everything is identical between our iOS and Android implementations, and it's more difficult to get super smooth scrolling performance of our display on Android.  I'll write up a case for the dev team to see if it can be improved.

I written of this issue when Logos finally went to vertical scrolling with no resolve. Frame rate seems to be at 10fps. Can't be an Android vs iOS thing since other cross platform bible apps on Android, such as You Version and OliveTree have very smooth vertical scrolling. Apparently Logos just doesn't care about this issue as it has been a few years now in this horrible frame rate. Hopefully, it's fixed eventually.

This looks a big trouble. Anyways, just try doing it to other gadgets. Maybe, virtual scrolling works to other device or gadgets.

I agree with you! The thing that surprises me most is that I don't see anyone else complaining, despite the fact that vertical scrolling is all but useless. I have switched to youversion for my main Bible reading. I only go to logos when I have to for commentary or something. Also, I find the touch to drag highlighting quite horrible as well. Hopefully they will fix some of these issues soon!

I have no stake in this since I am an iOS user, but it could be that people are not complaining because they prefer page flip, I am a scroller and do not care for page turning at all but I believe "page turning" is default so maybe they are content with that. I am sure FL cares but I also would bet they have been kept busy bug swatting and implement new items that new books require (not to mention trying to solve all the problems that pop up on all the new hardware released). I would bet that scrolling is on a todo list but it may be seen as a lower priority. I hope you get better scrolling soon, I am just glad that I am in iOS.

I'm on a fairly old / outdated Android device (Nexus 4) and vertical scrolling works well in the Bible app. Although some other bible apps support vertical scrolling it seems the reading content is constrained to certain passages or chapters whereas you can essentially vertical scroll through the entire resource in the Faithlife Bible app which I appreciate.

Also off topic, but nothing beats being able to share custom reading plans (generated in Logos 6) with a group and then being able to see my reading status on the homepage as well as have the reading plan markers inline in the reading text and being able to mark specific readings as done.  killer feature I haven't been able to duplicate in other bible apps / platforms.

    (Ressurecting an oldish topic) :-/

Have you tried scrolling on YouVersion? It's much smoother than Logos? I have just started using Logos on Android and am eealre disappointed with the jerky scrolling?

I have a Nexus 6p phone so it's not the latest but Logos seems worse than YouVersion and Bible Gateway app to me?

    Thanks,

Six years later on a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with the newest Android 12 at 120Hz refresh rate, and the scrolling is still unbearably bad. YouVersion Bible app is as smooth as silk. Could we get some attention on this Faithlife?

Agreed the scrolling needs to be much improved for android- it’s quite bad! There is much choppiness, pauses, and it scrolls way too fast when you have it in page by page mode and use two fingers to scroll up or down. Scrolling on YouVersion works smooth and perfect with no choppiness or pauses so I am not sure why the same cannot be done for Logos???[*-)].
