IPAD Highlighting suddenly stopped working
My iPad and iPhone Logos Apps are not allowing me to highlight text. Please let me know if you have any idea on what is causing this problem. I have reset my devices multiple times. Thank you

This happens to me randomly, but with some frequency. Quiting the app and restarting fixes it for me.

I just did that to no avail. My next step is to remove the app, but I would hate to have to reinstall all of my book downloads if not necessary. Being this is happening on multiple iPads and my iPhone it seems like it is not a problem at the device level. Does anyone have any insight? Thank you in advance.

The simplest reason is if a user has turned off said note document. It would appear as if you weren't highlighting, when in actuality you were.
If that isn't the reason, you may have "large note document syndrome." How do you organize your highlights? How large are the files?

I only use one note document, a default blue highlighter. I often find that I can highlight part of a book on my ipad, and 10 minutes later, further on in the book, I no longer can.

You are mistaking a note document for a highlighting style. Of course, FL helped mislead you in that by the way they designed their system. [:s]
(The default behavior is for a highlighting note to go into a document named after the pallet the highlighter is stored in)

Pretend to print the document on your computer... how many pages would it take to print?
FWIW - I think most users would best be served by using "resource specific" note documents.

I've written a case about changing the default note document "Resource Specific"; I'll ask about it in today's meeting. The existing default is (as alabama24 mentioned) problematic because often people just add highlights without first thinking about how they should be organized or where they will go.
The more notes one has in a single note document the longer it takes to add/change highlights in that document and it can get pretty bad for those who love to highlight. Last year we had a customer complain about highlighting being really show and it turned out they had over 75,000 highlights in a single document and had never thought about organizing them into smaller buckets.

You didn't answer my question though. If you are only using one note document, you are creating a problem with a note document beast. Eventually, you will have problems with mobile sync... which you have already indicated. How many pages would your single note document be when printed?
For clarification: When you highlight, you simply want to highlight, and don't view the highlight as a note, right? I believe most users feel the same. In which case, a behind the scenes "resource specific" note document would be your best choice.
FWIW - My original suggestion (several years ago) had two parts:
- Highlights should go into a resource specific note document by default.
- The note document should be hidden by default, but be able to be found and opened easily.
The ability to utilize resource specific note documents has <kind of> been implemented, but it isn't the default... and the implementation is only <mostly> good. They chose to utilize the book's title as the unique identifier... only a book's title isn't always unique.
The second part is that the note document should be able to be hidden by default (else the note documents proliferate).

I'm one of those that adds highlights without first thinking. I'd bet I'm similar to the other 99.9% of the world's (cosmos) highlighters. They highlight.
I have 3 colors. That is because at Staples, highlighters come in 3 colors.
My highlight file, aka notes file in Logos parlance, began in 2009. That is almost 7 years ago. Along the way, I deleted it once, plus somehow got some spanish highlighter files. I deleted them too.
And yes, like Ben, periodically the Logos app refused to highlight. No problem ... I just go to my other Logos app with the same resource and keep highlighting.

If you open Tools > Settings and change "Document for Highlights" to "Resource-specific Note Document", you can continue using just one simple highlighter, and that's all. There's nothing complex about it.
The advantage? You highlights will sync much faster because they'll be automatically stored and organized into different Note Documents, one for each resource.
