LXX dictionaries in iPhone app

I don't use my iphone for study, however let me see if I can help you. First, which LXX are you using? I'll refer to Septuaginta: Morphologically Tagged by Alfred Ralhfs, I have others so if you're using a different text I may have it for comparison. Using Ge 1.1 as my text and I touch the word arche, it brings up a popup with "Look up" on it. If I choose this it gives me a brief gloss of the word in English and morphological information.

I've reported such problems before; they've been around for years. The issue has to do with some Logos editions of the "LXX" having both Greek and Hebrew tagging, which you cannot manually select on the mobile apps (at least, as I recall on, Android; I haven't been reading the LXX as much on my Logos mobile app lately).

I don't have much time at the moment, but my response(s) in this thread might help provide some guidance for you or other forum users who have time to provide more specific feedback/tips. If you have access to any other editions of the LXX that might help.

Is it possible in th iOS app to run a simple lemma search for all the forms of a Greek word in the LXX? Bible word study is no good for the LXX.

Hi, Brian. If you have it, try the Septuaginta: SESB Edition. In my experience, it works a whole lot better on mobile apps than the Septuagint with Logos Morphology. It seems that the apps just can't handle all of the extra tagging and interlinear data that comes with Logos's LXX. They have major problems with Hebrew as well, as I have reported on the Android Beta forum, although, I recall the iOS app having similar problems.

Alternatively, when a Bible Word Study occasionally fails in the Septuaginta: SESB Edition, I find that searching for the Greek form of the word (as it occurs in the text) will sometimes succeed in finding it in one of my lexical resources. In the Android App, it helps that you can perform searches in recent resources. In the iOS app, I think you might be able to search collections, which would be even better. The Lexham Analytical Lexicon to the Septuagint is particularly well suited for such searches. LSJ also seems pretty thorough in listing various spellings and inflected word forms. Searching by biblical reference might be another—or even a superior—option in more exhaustive lexicons. I hope this helps!

Edit: I should add that the Bible Word Study "translation" section will not work might work(?) with the Septuaginta: SESB Edition, although the "definition" section does display lexical resources on my Android app, which is the most essential part for my purposes. (Actually, scratch that. On the Android app, when I set the Lexham English Septuagint as my preferred Bible in the settings menu, I can at least confirm that I do get results in the "translation" section. I don't have time to check on an iOS device, but maybe it's possible after all!)
