Would like to add to a note rather than add to a note document

When I select text in a resource and right click I am offered an option of adding a note to a note document. I would prefer to add the text to an open note within a note document.

In one capture below I have selected text and then copied it into the open note. In the other capture I right clicked and chose "add a note" which doesn't seem to have any use to me at all.

Thanks for clarifying.

Can you explain how you use notes? It seems to me like you are using this note like a clipping file... Have you used those? Is your concern simply copying text from a resource into a note? Are you wanting note indicators in multiple resources (or passages)? I did verify that the later is possible and can show you if you would like (but that doesn't appear to be your concern).

My use is very unsophisticated. I keep a running Journal. Each month I create a new note titled with the name of the month within a Note Document titled 2016 or whatever.

Each day I type in by hand the day's date and add any bible verses or commentary that catch my eye by either "copy Bible verses" or cut and paste.

I've tried both clippings and highlighting to save to my file, but in each case they open a new note for each selection and the notes produced are confusing to me since I really only want the text I selected.

I thought the right click method would save me a few clicks each daybut it is a relatively trivial concern in the overall scheme of things.

I feel guilty that you are spending so much time thinking about this but appreciate it at the same time.

I don't think there is currently a better method to do what you want... although it seems like their should be. I honestly don't know if there are reasons to prefer clippings to a note document... I wonder what FL would say. [:S]

John I agree with you, I would like to be able to add a clipping that does not come from logos. It would be great if logos 7 did that.

John, there is a reason you can't get there from here. You are using a Note file as a journal which is what many do ... but they also keep asking for an actual journaling function to be added. The problem is that notes are seen as being attached to something - a resource, a lemma, a Factbook entity - as their normal state. So in the design model, when you select something it is assumed that you want to attach a note to it.

What you want to do when you select text is to copy & paste ... your destination happens to be a note but it could be a Word file journal or any other text document. So think of your work flow like this:

Open the Journal Note document.
Add a Note for the day and keep it expanded in your layout until you are finished adding items to the note.
Copy & paste items of interest into that note using the Copy function at the top of the right click Context Menu
When you are done with the Journal Note of the day, close the document.
The next day open the Journal Note document ...

Note that most of the process you are not thinking about the Note function - you are thinking about adding information to a open note via typing or copy & paste, In short, same procedure but different mind set.

Thank you MJ. That is pretty much what I do and it is a reasonable process. I use a new note each month rather than each day and append new passages as they catch my eye.

Comforting to know that I am not missing some hidden shortcut somewhere.
