Inductive Greek Help

I am using Philemon as my text to learn vocabulary and sentence construction. Is there a resource that can guide me and assist my learning of Greek sentence construction especially.

I would like to be able to form new sentences based on what is present in the biblical text. E.g. Εὐχαριστῶ, I would like to be able to conjugate the verb for the second and third person.

My study layout is helpful, however the plasticity I am searching for has not been attained. I am using BDAG in a floating window this is not displayed. I also have a hard copy of Robert Funk's A Beginning Intermediate Grammar of Hellenistic Greek.

I appreciate any advice.

Sorry you got no response. I do not know Greek and therefore do not have an answer. And because you are starting at a very different point than I would, I don't know how to help you. What I can say, is that in similar situations I limit myself to (a) the text (b) a dictionary (c) a grammar and (d) a translation to consult when totally befuddled. Declensions, conjugations and sentence structure I learn by the repetition in the text. For practice exercises I take sentences I have read and modify them using the vocabulary I know.

I have never used Goodwin, but did my first year Greek using Mounce's Basics of Biblical Greek, and went on to use Wallace's Greek Grammar Beyond the Basics. If I were trying to learn basic Greek using the method you are, I would probably try to do it using John's Gospel or 1 John, as the syntax there is a lot simpler and the vocabulary will be of wider use (at least in the Gospels). I'm sure some others will be along with other views, but I do wish you all the best in your endeavours.

Mounce does give you tools to pick up on patterns, particularly with contractions, so that you don't need to memorise every declension and conjugation by itself, and I would suggest that is an easier way to learn in the long term.

Using the method you are, it might also be worth producing a Word List in Greek for the book you are using, and using that as the source for learning vocabulary. I do my NT reading in Greek, and still often produce a Word List as I begin a book to refresh my vocabulary.

For layout, recommend hiding inline linterlinear, which can be deceptive for learning Greek: too easy to read English while intending to look at Greek. Also reverse interlinear alignment does not keep Greek context.

Thankful for visual filter highlighting so can "see" range of Greek verbal expression in English and Greek:

In Philemon 4, Εὐχαριστῶ highlighting shows Present Tense, Active Voice, Indicative Mood, and Singular. Reverse Interlinear in ESV does not have "I" included in highlighting for verb. Εὐχαριστῶ has a first person ending, which could be translated "I thank" or "I am thanking"

BDAG is an exhaustive lexicon with wide range of word meanings. Trying to learn English using an unabridged dictionary (with extensive definitions) would have similar challenges.
