Is there a tool or feature in Logos to help me memorize Scripture?
What sort of thing are you envisioning?
Right now I've got a book scheduled at one verse a day (of course I do fall behind....)
Now that would be a GREAT Feature!!! There are some that do the same verse with different fill in the blanks popping up over and over.... I know I could use something to give it a shot. I can memorize numbers like nothing, but always have struggled with verses, scripts, lyrics, etc...
No tool. But there is a book (if you have Platinum or higher - "Scripture Memory Made Easy" - I've put it to some use although I've modified it a little.
I note that Logos sells on their site "Memlok Bible Memory System" but nothing integrated into Logos.
Actually, something to great those fill in the gap things would be complimentary feature to the word search tool. I always thought it was a bit of a gimick but I went through a stage of including them in my handouts and then skipped one week and got told off for not including one!
It isn't a part of L4, but the following site discusses a method of memorizing texts that if far more effective than any other that I have used. In short, you write out the verse using just the first letter of each word. It's amazing how quickly you can see this -- batpisftitkoh -- and your mind reads it as "blessed are the poor in spirit for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.

ebible.com has a cool Memorization tool. You've got to be a premium subscriber to use it, but once you are, it lets you view any verse or range of verses you're trying to memorize for a while to study it, and then when you're ready to go, it tests you by having you type in the first letter of each word. It fills in the rest of the word for you as you type. It shows your results afterwards: how long it took, how many stumbles, how many "cheats" (it lets you cheat if you need a hint), and gives you a score. There's no long-term tracking of your progress.
I'd love to see Logos incorporate something like this in a future version, and do an even better implementation of it by tracking progress and keeping track of several verses you're working on memorizing and how well you've got them down, letting you practice the ones you still need to work on in a random sequence, etc.
There's also a program called SuperMemo that helps you memorize just about anything (probably better for lists like vocab/flashcards than memorizing verses, though). Combining some of the functionality of that with ebible.com's memorization tool would make a killer feature for Logos...
I was hoping for something like vocab memorization that could integrate with the "Bible Reading Plan." It could even be as simple as something that would remain at the top of the Home Page until I marked it "complete."
I spend so much time on Logos - Bible Study, research, sermon prep, etc...that it would be very helpful to have something - even if very simple - that would integrate with the system.

Jeremy, I know several people who really go for the Word Searches, my wife for one, but my autistic son finds them to be very engaging as he learns a biblical story or a group of verses. It is a way of learning important words from a story or passage. One of eldest sons wanted a challenge so I did a word search in Hebrew, which he did faster than expected.

Rosie, that is an awesome suggestion. I have always wanted to work on better memoziation of scriptures. If Logos could create this it would just add to ones bible studies. It's one thing to read the scriptures and study them on an intellectual level, but a whole other matter to get sown into the heart where God's Word can really impact ones life.

It's true what they say about different strokes... so curious question - do you think your son's like of word searches is a product of his autism or perhaps just a more general character trait obviously shared with other people in your family and the small group I lead. I hadn't ever thought of doing word searches in any other than English - I might try that this week.

Well his autism - which is actually a high-finctioning form - causes him to need to be able to focus on something. He likes doing them like lots of other people, but it helps him get through different situations.

My wife and I decided to start with Romans and it has been an amazing experience. In a short time we pretty much have Romans 1 memorized and are currently working on Romans 2.
