I've heard that the older AGES software data can be imported into Logos 4. Does anyone know if this is true or how to do it? I've got Calvin, Spurgeon, and another CD with loads of resources. Thanks!
First, load them into L3 (if you've never done it before), then synchronized your licenses in L3. After that, restart L4. That should do it (though sometimes it seems to take a while for the server to register the updated licenses - and other times it's instantaneous).
If that doesn't work, with the above resources installed to Libronix and your licenses synced, use the scan command to find and install to L4. On the command bar type scan [L3 resource path] for most people the resource path will be: C:\Program Files\Libronix DLS\Resources (Windows 32 bit), or C:\Program Files (x86)\Libronix DLS\Resources (Windows 64 bit).
BTW, I have Ages Calvin & Spurgeon working in L4 without problems.
This is true if they are the few Ages software packages that were produced in the old Logos format. If they are the PDF Ages files, I don't think it's possible. When you say you have a CD with a lot of other resources, I get the impression that those would be the PDF file libraries.
The Spurgeon File was PDF docs. Sounds like it's not going to work.... bummer.
Ages produced a Logos version of Spurgeon and a lower priced pdf format.
Richard, based on what others are saying below, do you still think I can do this? I'm not sure how to load these files into L3. They are all PDF files from what I can tell. Any ideas? Thanks for your help!
PDF files cannot be viewed in Logos. Only licensed Logos formatted resources can be used in Logos. You can continue to use the PDFs in Adobe Reader alongside Logos.
I have Ages Spurgeon in Logos, but as I stated before, they produced a Logos version and a pdf version. Of course only the Logos version will work in Logos 4.
You might want to take advantage of a special discount pre-pub price to repurchase the Calvin resources in Logos format (which will get you a ton more functionality than you had just reading them as PDF files and it might even get you more actual resources -- it's Calvin's entire output [108 volumes] -- I can't find a listing of which of his books were included in AGES; was it just his commentaries or everything?). The pre-pub price is now $379.95 for $2,199.95 worth of books; that price will go up to $999.95 after the ship date (currently estimated to be 2/26/2010). See http://www.logos.com/products/prepub/details/5169 for details. Unfortunately Spurgeon is no longer in pre-pub so that is quite a bit more pricey: http://www.logos.com/products/details/4793
A long time back Bob Pritchett surveyed what features we would like to see in Version 4. One of the questions was "Would you value having the capability to read PDF documents from within Logos 4?" This leads me to believe it is possible for Logos to write the code to get it done. (Other publishers products can read PDF files from within their user interface.) But we were never promised that feature and it is more to Logos' benefit to concentrate on bringing promised features into full implementation first.
I made a booboo when I ordered the Calvin 500 upgrade without the commentaries because I had them in PBB format & thought they were Logos format. Logos makes more money selling me Logos produced resources. And I have better functionality and a happier user experience with Logos produced resources over PBB or PDF formats. It's a win-win situation. Now if I ever get cured of my pack-rattiness I can get rid of all that Bible software I never use any more.
IMO, the best thing about the Ages version of Calvin is that it includes the Battles translation of the Institutes. Some consider it to be superior to all other translations.
Oh yes, I've been wishing for the Battles translation, which is the one I have in hardcover (2 volumes). Was this Ages Calvin ever in Libronix format or is this only a PDF file? Maybe I'll be able to find it on the used software market. Not so much for the translation as for the accompanying notes, if it includes those. Those are what really make the Battles translation (McNeill, editor) better, IMHO.
I have the PDF version and, yes, it does include the notes.
If you want to install the Spurgeon software and others apart from Logos 4 install a more updated program like the Expositor's Bible V. 3 first. This will have Adobe 7.0 on it. After you install the program follow with Spurgeon or other older Ages software using Adobe 4.0. Let the installation go through its installation proceedure. You wil be told the Registry cannot be udated and a Thank you for using Adobe software window will appear. Close the Registry info window. Close the Thank you for using Adobe software window. Then wait. The files from the software will begin loading shortly thereafter. I have Windows 7 Student and Home Premium and this is what I did. It works.

Richard been watching you and reading your comments and I amvery impressed with your knowledge and please I am not trying to embarrass you.I consider myself a bible student of many years of studying as a layman butnever any formal seminary education. I feel I have above averageknowledge of the bible. I have had L4 since its existence and now have the platinumpackage. Here’s what I would like for you to do for me if you don’t mind. Consideringthe commentaries in the platinum package would you pick me out about a halfdozen writers/commentaries that I can trust? Thanks

I don't have the Ages Calvin Collection, but have an old Ages library which contains the Institutes and it just has the Beveridge translation.
Do you know if it's possible to import the AGES data into Logos 6?
This hasn't changed much in the years since you fist posted about that: old AGES data that are in Logos 3 / Libronix format are fully part of L6 libraries, whereas the PDFs you own are just that: PDFs.
You can convert those to MS Word (.docx) format - which may be very easy or not, depending on whether the PDF is really a printed Word document, or scanned pictures, I'd use Calibre for that, but recent versions of MS Word, or a paid service by Adobe, the makers of PDF, have been reportedly showing good results - and then build them in L6 as Personal Books.
Greetings!
Well, were in Logos 9.
Just found my Ages Digital Library Pulpit Commentary. Will not run on my PC and Logos sells the set for at least $100.
So, is there a work-around? Did anyone find one?
Assuming this was in Logos/Libronix format and you have a serial number, try entering it here: https://www.logos.com/redeem
If that doesn't work, contact customer service.
