Logos 6 Maps Complete?

Do we finally have all 250 maps of the Logos 6 Atlas and where can I find a list of those Maps?

I counted only 114 and Yes I did sign up for all 3 volumes. I have only 1 Map under the Conquest and 1 Map under the Judges,

I also purchased all and only have 114.

Well, if Maps is like the morph/syntax modules in L4, I'd say you may be looking at L9 before they start feeling guilty about sold product not delivered.
My guess is the staff cut squeezed out map-ification.
Though I still think the idea was old-technology before it got started. In theory, it can expand like the Faithlife dictionary. But it's high-labor, low payout until integrated into Proclaim/mobile/web.

I'm sorry that we haven't delivered all the maps yet. It's been a continual source of frustration for us too.
We probably bit off too much here, wanting to put in a high level of detail at multiple zoom levels. It means that we end up laying out each map at many levels of detail.
The primary platform we use to create the maps has also been deprecated, and the tool set is no longer evolving. Right now we're transitioning to the new platform, which should speed new map development as well as deliver faster, better-looking maps. I hope this will accelerate development shortly, after the transition to the vector rendering.

So then Monday we should see the new atlas? [:P]

Hey Bob, on a serious note, I would like to see more ancient places on the map. For instance, places like Mari, Nuzi, Uruk, and even Sumer aren't even listed. It would be nice to have all ancient Sumerian, Babylonian, and Assyrian places represented on the new map/atlas program. The places seem to be tied more to places directly mentioned in the Bible, and that works great, but there are other collections of texts offered in Logos that are from places not specifically mentioned (or that mention places not specifically mentioned) in the Bible that should be included in the map/atlas component.
This is THE ONLY place that I feel a competitor has an advantage over Logos. I have to use that software for general ANE research just for this reason (that program also uses Carta, which I would gladly purchase again for Logos!).

Let me add my apologies for the slow progress on the Atlas project: while i'm excited by the maps we're producing (for example, I found 1 Sam 14 much easier to understand accompanied by this map), our technical approach has turned out to be much harder than we anticipated. Our current focus is story-maps, with the goal of at least one map for every story in the Bible that needs one: we plan to complete those before we move on to the many other kinds of maps that would be helpful to Logos users. Important but extra-biblical places like Mari and Nuzi will probably be on the Atlas replacement for this Logos 4 map, though i'm not certain of the specific details. We do show Uruk (Erech) on one era-map: however, we haven't made other maps from pre-patriarchal and patriarchal periods yet. We've been doing one era at a time to help streamline our process.
The good news is that our Atlas approaches (both our previous one and our current retooling) are well-suited to transitioning to the web and mobile platforms, so we don't expect we'll have to do much additional work to accomplish that.

That great news Sean, and I had not seen the Mari/Nuzi map that you referenced. That is helpful. I do look forward to the atlas being retooled. Thanks for the update!

Lots of good ideas, but I still think that next time you should consider a vector map engine

Bob's post indicated that they were transitioning to vectors if I read it correctly.

You are right, I did read Bob's post, perhaps a bit too fast, and I misunderstood. Sorry for this

But one would think it would show the other cities located next to it.

One thing would be good too, is to have user selectable units: metric, or the USA system - and also user selectable coordinate systems.

Bob, Sean, or anyone "in the know",
I was wondering if we can get an update on how the transition to the new mapping platform is going and if we can expect to see any new or reworked maps in relatively near(ish) future? I occasionally open the Atlas tool but haven't seen any tangible progress (on the user end) for quite some time now. I have no doubt, however, that you're busy behind the scenes! [Y]

We're actively making new vector map designs internally, but we also need to implement new code in the application so they can be delivered. I don't know how soon that will happen.

Well, I'll look forward to seeing what you produce whenever that may be! Thanks for the update, Sean.

I expect we'll be releasing Atlas maps (new vector style) in Logos Cloud (app.logos.com) by the end of March, give or take. We're using a web framework to deliver the new style, so it made the most sense to try it there first. We're working on implementing the new style in the desktop app as well, but i don't yet have a timeline for when that will ship.
We currently have ~145 maps shipping internally in the new style, so those will be available once we've completed the implementation.

These will still be available to those who purchased 6 correct? I saw cloud and got worried

If you purchased these with Logos 6, the new-style maps will be available to you once we've shipped the new code, and we'll continue delivering new maps until we've completed the set (current target is ~230 maps, but as we make them we sometimes adjust our plans by joining or splitting, so that's an approximate number).

Thank you Sean. I did purchase Logos 6 Gold which came with all 3 volumes if I'm remembering correctly. I'll just be patient then. Thank you for continuing to work on these for us and not giving up!

Thanks Sean, I appreciate this is a huge undertaking and makes sense that it will be easier to test out in the we app first before having to update the code of users desktop applications. Will there be notification here or in the Web App forum when these are ready to test out by users ?

A final decision hasn't been made, but it's much more likely that the new code will only be in Logos 7; customers will need to download the free update to Logos 7 Basic to get it.

Any updates on the Logos maps? I know this has been in process since L6

The new vector-based Atlas is in the Logos Web App (http://app.logos.com) and performs much, much better. We've made quite a few new maps since last spring, but they haven't yet gotten shipped to the Web App: i believe that will be happening fairly soon. The Dev team is working on getting that new code back into the desktop app, but I don't know a timeline for that work.

Thank you sir! I was more curious as to the desktop and when the new code would make it into there. I also remember a volume 3 promised for Logos 6 but that never came to fulfillment. Has the volume 3 maps set been put off to the side or have those been added (or will be)? Thank you for your time sir

We've completed many of the maps for volume 3 maps, though there are still some to go. We definitely plan to complete that volume. Users with a license to this product will receive them once they're shipped (likely sooner in the web app, but eventually also in desktop and mobile).

Great! Is there a way to check if you have the license mentioned? I purchased L6 Gold but that webpage doesn't exist anymore but i remember it being included. This logos page doesn't show much. I look forward to it once it ships!

Yes, I believe all three volumes were included with L6 Gold.
0 -
Is there a way of checking for sure?
When I check I see that I'm on "Logos 7 Basic Feature Set". I'm pretty sure I bought the maps on L6.0 -
Looks to me like it's included in Logos 7 Full Feature Set and Logos 7 Extended Feature Set. It's not included in Logos 7 Basic. If you're not sure, please contact customer support and they can straighten out what you've purchased.

Thank you. I did check the product page and the interactive product list shows I have all the maps. Can't wait!

The desktop version is under active development, so I hope to be able to provide news soon.

I'm confused as to the current status of the L6 maps; which of the following is true?:
A. All the maps are available in the web app but only some in the desktop app
B. Some maps are available in the web app and some maps are available in the desktop app but neither platform has all the maps
C. Between the web app and the desktop app, all the maps are available
(Does any of this make any sense? [:P])

B. Our total target is about 250 maps. We have about 200 maps currently available in on app.logos.com, and about 115 on the mobile apps, all in the newer vector format that is faster to load and zoom. We have somewhat fewer maps currently in the desktop app. We expect to have all maps available on all platforms in the new format within the next few months, if all goes well.

You say they’re in the mobile app but these don’t seem to be present in the latest iOS beta?

We've had requests for that capability, but for now Atlas requires an internet connection.

Sorry, i stand corrected: mobile apps are still using the previous raster style maps, not the newer vector format.

The updated Atlas tool has shipped in 7.14 Beta 1. It will be available to all users when 7.14 ships in about 6 weeks.
Andrew116 said:Will the maps work offline in the desktop app?
The Atlas tool will not be available when running the application in offline mode, but if your internet connection is disrupted, it may continue to work with locally cached background images. You can also export any map as an image, and many story maps also have a formatted-for-presentation version available in the Media Tool.

Enjoying the update. Some initial thoughts - When I search for a place (e.g. 'Ai'), it seems to take me to the region but doesn't highlight or name the place on the map. Would it be helpful for a little flag to pop up, like on google maps?
Also would be cool to be able to add layers e.g. 'israel tribal allotment'
