- Floating Windows now open to a larger window.
This might be an improvement for opening the Library window, but otherwise, it's way too wide for reading resources. My display is set to 1440 x 900 and this is what I get:

Please, please, undo this "improvement."
FWIW: It's far easier and quicker to "maximize" the window (I have it set to a shortcut key) than it is to shrink it down to the right size for reading.

Levi, thanks for pointing this issue out. We're re-evaluating how to handle the original request for a larger window area for tools such as Atlas.

Thanks Ryan—I fully understand the desire for windows like the library and atlas to open larger (I would like that also). Is it possible for those windows to have separate settings?

Why can't Logos remember the window size for these kinds of floating popups? For years, people have been asking for Logos to remember the Library window being maximized when it is reopened. The app can do it with other non-main floating windows in a saved layout, so it should be able to do it for the Library. And if it can do it for the Library, it could do it for Atlas, too.

We do have this on the list. The change we initially made was a quick stop gap for those with larger monitors. This new change is a little smarted and is intended as a step in the right direction (and even when we remember the location we'll still want to have a good default open position)

Some specifics on the new "rules" we're using:
- We open the floating panels to the same size as the main app window. Then we move them a little down and right. (This matches the behavior of Word with multiple windows).
- For panels that you manually float we cut the width in half (to account for the fact that these will often be text resources.
Again, this is stop-gap until we can put in what we'd really like: memory of where you last had the panel type.

Speaking for myself only - the most common reason for me to float a panel is to make it wider. The Windows Word app behavior is familiar so I would prefer you stop there. I don't know how others use it except for multiple screens.

I wonder if there is any research on the optimum line length for ease of reading (on screen) I often have to juggle panels for width when I find that my eye gets lost on the move from the end of a line to the beginning of the next.
If there is then this would be a really good place to start for text based floating panels.
I use floating panels extensively on my second monitor - the biggest improvement for me would be the app remembering where I left them on saved layouts.
Selfishly I would like the interim default to be quarter size on a 4k second monitor (if there is one)

Not to add another opinion to this thread :-) but it seems to me it's obvious there are going to be 100 opinions for 105 users. Why not do almost anything basic and simple as the default, let the user resize/move it, and once closed, floating windows always reopen to the same dimensions and positions as when they were last closed? Most people use browsers the most these days and that's how they work, along with a lot of other apps. This seems like something that will never make most people happy if a static positioning/sizing is searched for (along with the issues that people have everything from small portable screens to large secondary desktop monitors).

That's what Ryan said above that they are working. This is only temporary until they can make the windows remember the last positioning.
