English definitions?
I'm new to Logos on my iPad and am trying to figure out if it has the capability to define words while I'm reading. I tried highlighting a word and clicking lookup but (as I'm not a Bible scholar) the resultant list might as well be Greek and is not helpful. Is there a way took configure this functionality (like how a Kindle works) or is it simply unavailable?

Do you mean that you want to see what an english word means in an english dictionary? If the bible has a reverse interlinear attached AND if you are online, the original language lookup is triggered. If you are offline, OR if the bible doesn't have an RI, then the iOS dictionary you have chosen (iOS settings, not Logos) is used.

Thanks - yes I'm looking for what I would see in an English dictionary. I'm using the KJV but am not sure what a reverse interlinear is or if I have one... Here's what I see and here's what I would like to see:

As Alabama24 mentioned, if you first take your device offline using Lookup will default to the default iOS dictionary (assuming you have one configured).

It might be nice to have the option to set the app so that the default iOS dictionary would work even in the cases where it would not be used at present.

Thanks all - I tried it in different ways and it seems the KJV is the only version I've found so far that does not provide coherent definitions for the words. Too bad too since that's the only version my Bible study uses... And yes taking the iPad offline defaults to the iOS dictionary but as SineNomine says, it would be a useful feature since disabling a feature to get another feature seems counterintuitive and no very well thought out. I'll plug along and hopefully this will be added at some point. Thanks again!0

not sure what a reverse interlinear is or if I have one...
An "interlinear" bible places english words underneath the original language. That is useful for those who can read in the Greek or Hebrew. Users less proficient in the original languages, or someone doing a word study, might like to get at the original languages in a more user friendly manner. A "reverse interlinear" places the original language words underneath the English text, based upon a specific translation. In the Logos ecosystem, most Bibles have RI's which can be purchased.

...which means that the only bible you have with a reverse interlinear is the KJV. I assume that you don't own a base package?
I do want to add something here... which is that a modern english dictionary (like the ones included with iOS) may or may not be particularly helpful to you in your situation. Words evolve and change over time, which is why there is a need for new translations. The KJV is over 400 years old, so the olde english words may have quite a different (or even opposite!) meaning than the ones provided in a modern dictionary.

I like how Kindle does it in that it allows you to specifiy a dictionary of choice. Wouldn't it be amazing if I could highlight a word and my specified dictionary of choice (ex., ISBE) would instantly present a definition with a link to "more"?

I think there is now a way to accomplish what you desire! I do t know if it's a bug or just hidden feature.
