When I Choose a Package Can I Remove Certain Books?

For example, I'm looking at my upgrade options for Logos 7 and considering getting a package I would normally not get just to get a resource or two in that package. The downside is that I don't want 80% of the books in the package. I do understand the "more books is better" idea but with the package I'm looking at it would be a bunch of stuff taking up space on my hard drive and slowing down my searches that I will never use. If I buy a package is there a way to basically get Logos to remove certain books from my account?

They won't be removed from your account but they can be removed from your install : https://www.logos.com/training/logos5/hide-resources

That's it - I forgot about that feature. Thank you

There's no way to not pay for them, but yes, you can get them off your machine and even get the licenses pulled if you ask.

But my advice is: stop buying stuff you don't need. It only encourages them to keep doing more of the bundle stuff with hundreds of public domain items and two or three good items. It reminds me of buying LPs in the 70s. You had to pay for 9 filler songs to get the one or two hits you wanted.

There are some resources that FL will give a special discount on when you are buying a base package. These show only after you stick a package in your cart; you can try it and see. If the ones you want are available that way, you might be able to go with a lower level package and just add those.

That's exactly what I did. I really wanted the Anchor Yale Bible Dictionary. That's in the Gold packages, but I didn't want to spend that much money. I was interested, however, in the Methodist Bronze. Once I stuck that in my cart, the AYBD came up as a special offer with $70 off. The Methodist Bronze + AYBD was less than half what the Gold package would have costed me. So, I'm very happy I had that option.

I agree. The way Logos/FL does this drives me crazy. In my case if I get a package I can get a commentary set I've wanted for a few years that is regularly $1,600 for $400. I wish it wasn't the way it is, but for a $1,200 discount on that one resource I'm pretty close to buying a package and then just hiding all the stuff I don't want out of it.

I agree with you I wish we could remove the clutter of all the books I'll never use and get just the ones I actually want, but the current pricing scheme pretty much forces you to that. I usually just do feature set upgrades for that reason, but I may take advantage of this deal.

For a mere $600 USD I'd happily do all the resource hiding you wanted for you. [;)]

This may be a problem if you have a very small hard drive. Don't forget that before you can hide you have to download once. I am not sure if you can 'hide' before indexing - but indexing on its own needs a good deal of space.

I am not sure that this will be a real rather than theoretical problem. It has been 'proved' that a full thumb stick is heavier than an empty one but few notice the difference.

This only bites you when somebody 'you do use' quotes from 'something you will never use' and you click on the link and it isn't there.

Before hiding stuff to cover a theoretical problem I would only hide stuff causing a practical problem. I've not done it yet!

    I was there once....

So I first bought in at L2. Used it for a while. L3 came out, and I hated the interface - and quit using it all together. Fast forward to the L4 release.

Before I bought a package, and before I knoew what I had already bought wasn't lose, I downloaded all the free books I could for months. I avoided a couple of the big things like Perseus at first.

But before I took the plunge and bought into l4, I did indeed download perseus.

At the time, I hadn't had much language training, and what little I did have wasn't enough to find anything in their of use at that point. So I painstakingly hid every non-english perseus title because every time I searched for anything that was all that came up.

This experience at the time colored my approach to purchasing resources. I only wanted what I wanted and nothing more, or less.

But then I bought an L4 base package; around that same time, someone showed me prioritization. Between those two things, I grew to see that Logos was an engine made more powerful by more titles. Made more powerful by using the built in organization tools (collections, tagging, prioritization to name a few) and that in some ways Logos is like a fire, the more wood, the more heat, the more you can do with it.

Now I've got 15k books or so, and am thrilled to find deals like what you've found because while maybe 80% of a certain denominational package are things I don't think I'll use, the other 20% are hugely valuable and available at a great discount. AND then every now and then I discover a gem that came ostensibly for free with the stuff I did want.

When I right click on the book, the option to "hide the resource" isn't there (using logos 7).  So how can I hide the unwanted books in logos 7?

Where are you "right clicking"? On the resource title in the library? If you are still having troubles, please create a new thread and explain your issue clearly. Providing screen shots might help. There is nothing "new" about hiding resources in L7, and the engine is essentially the newest version of the L6 engine (which is always evolving).

I'm on L6 at the moment and there is no option to hide a resource on right click. I've actually been wondering how to do it, but haven't had time to look into it in depth.

You need to be right-clicking on the resource in the Library window

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but when I right click on a resource there is no "hide" option. See attached screenshot.

Ctrl + R. Click in Windows.

Yes, you have to hold down the control key in Windows or the option key in Mac while right-clicking to see the Hide this resource option.
