top frame of L4 goes black

I don't know what you call it--title bar?--but at the top of the Logos 4 window, Beta 6, that portion goes black after a while.  I am on Win 7 and have never noticed such an interface problem before, of L4 (although I just started this round of Beta at 5 . . . so who knows when the problem started.)  I notice something similar when I have Adobe reader 9 in full screen.  But that's a different issue.

Anyway, this has happened half a dozen times in the last couple days.

Hmm, this sounds like a bug that had been reported before. Logos introduced a new command "set custom chrome to no" which is supposed to work around the problem. See if that fixes it, and see this thread for more info.

rosie, i am not talking about the thing Richard and others complained of.  that was like a black bar or something.  This is on the title bar/frame, so it obscured the little minimize/restore/close buttons of the window.  (of the WHOLE L4 window)

Set Custom chrome to No fixes the title bar being black and obscuring the Windows buttons (close minimize etc). It shows up when you run a multiple monitors.

There is an issue with ATI video cards that cause this occassionally, even with custom chrome set to no. If you have one, that would explain it.

If not, there's another bug to report. If so, please include your video card mfg., whether or not you are using more than one screen, and your OS (32 or 64 bit?).

Sorry if I didn't get your drift completely, but in the thread I cited, Kevin Purcell said this was obsuring all the buttons on his window too, just like what you're seeing:

What I mean is that instead of being my system color it is all black and I cannot see any of the buttons even those in the upper right corner.

that's the ticket.  ATI Radeon.  So weird, tho, I have only noticed this since Beta 5/6 (actually, 6, for sure).

Kevin, while I think the ATI Radeon card may be the problem, I would like to clarify your comment: do you mean your fix of the problem (accurately describing what I see on mine) is an issue only when one runs multiple monitors?  If so, for my part, I have not run multiple monitors (though i'd LOVE to!)

The issue only happens occassionally and it's difficult to reproduce.

I discovered it earlier and reported it here:

    http://community.logos.com/forums/p/9197/72931.aspx#72931

The issue with two monitors and 64 bit windows is a similar known issue. But it's not the same as this issue.

BTW, if you minimize and restore the screen artifacts (black stuff) goes away.

Rosie, you are far too good to obscure my drift.  I am just far too lazy to read your link.  I had remembered what I thought was a completely different problem discussed by Richard DeRuiter and others.  I hope I did not besmirch your reputation too badly!  I had not seen that comment by Kevin before.  Anyway, so it is odd that this problem:

    a) is sometimes alleviated by setting Chrome to no (or whatever it was) and

    b) caused at times by the ATI graphics card and NOT alleviated by setting Chrome to no.

    hmmmmm.

thanks, Richard.  I did take a look at that link.  That is a bit different than what I am seeing.

On a whole different thing, makes me think about how L3 would lose markup (temporarily) when you used a touchpad.  FINALLY, that got fixed (i noticed by happenstance) but soon after, L4 came!

No worries. I am far too detached from my reputation to be bothered one way or the other. Not always (working on it [:)]), but in this case, yes.

It must be some weird glitch in the card or the driver. I'm sure you are far too smart to have not yet tried updating to the latest version of the ATI video drivers. Alas, I don't have any other suggestions, short of buying a different video card, which isn't what you want to hear, I'm sure. Maybe it's a bug in WPF. That doesn't help you (or Logos) either. I guess you're stuck with refreshing the window (minimize & restore) every time it happens.

So, I hear the State Dept is looking for people skilled in diplomacy . . . .[8-|]

Alas, i do update drivers here and there, but I haven't checked in oh, about 3 months.

Richard seems to have directed you well toward a driver solution. Bradley commented on this problem (in this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/9197.aspx). Basically he said that the custom painting over the title bar is a-typical and generates hard-to-diagnose bugs. So all we can run the latest video drivers and set custom chrome to no when these things rear their ugly head.

But back to your question. If you run a 64 bit OS and multiple monitors this black bar is a consistent problem.

I get this, or something similar (haven't seen a screen shot) but my drivers are up to date. ATI probably isn't fully up to speed with Win7 and 64 bit environments. Something in the display paint routine isn't keeping up - could be a Video Ram leak in the driver, or just some other minor glitch that gets worse over time.

Like I said, minimize and restore usually fixes it for a while on my system.

I get the black title bar problem on a dual monitor setup using NVIDIA Quadro drivers.  They are current.  I just keep the window from being maximized, else I use set chrome...
