Shaz-z-z-z-am!!  Just loaded the "main executable" for Logos 7.  Little over 2 GB was downloaded in about 30 minutes (with some other goodies running in the background).

Believe me, I've been watching eBay for literally YEARS to purchase Logos but never saw what I wanted.  Decided to cash out my pension and give it to Logos (enjoy, Logos.... Crying ).

Really glad I finally have LOGOS to get to know Him better; looks like I'm going to have to get a dual 32" monitor system setup to really appreciate this software (goodbye 24" monitors...)!  Looks like I'm ALSO going to have to take some vacation time off to dive into this!!

***Question*** ----

From the orders screen I executed the LogosSetup.exe(PC) and it installed... fine... ( I guess this is the initial install that everybody gets?...)

In the orders screen I also have something called "Downloadable Items"; in this group I have a

1)  P & C Silver Library

2)  Full Feature Set

I have not downloaded these yet as I have to go to work in 30 minutes (9 pm - 7 am shift - what "fun"..)

Am I correct to assume that I only have a "basic feature set" and the full set will download a lot more information?

Tell me..... does Logos automatically install these two downloadable items or can I download and install them at my discretion?

In closing, IS there a newbie forum at Logos - I couldn't find it, but will be doing a lot of watching of the Quickstart videos on my Logos desktop when I'm off Monday & Tuesday..?

Thanks for reading - I warned you - I'm a newbie Surprise,

Mark

Don't worry, Logos will download everything automatically.  If you'd like you can just leave Logos up and running on your PC and it will work on those things while you work your job.

Am I correct to assume that I only have a "basic feature set" and the full set will download a lot more information?

The above answer applies.  Everything will install on it's own (though you may have to restart the program in the morning when you get home.)

    All the forums apply. :-)

Just make sure that you do a few things to help us help you when you need help. (Read that part slowly I guess)

    1. Make sure anything you post goes in the right forum.  If you're using the beta, post in the beta forum etc.
    2. Please type a descriptive title to your post.  "Help me" isn't a good title.  "I"m having trouble with basic searching" is a great title.
    3. Give as much detail as you can in your post.  Be as specific as you can.  And be patient.  We'll all try to ask questions to narrow down a solution if we need to.

    Welcome aboard!

Hmm Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

As others have said, Welcome! There are probably very few people on the planet who don't feel like a newbie at times! I don't use many advanced features, so when I do need them, I feel like a newbie almost all the time in spite of being a user for a long, long time.

I hope you find this a great tool to help you in your growth.

Forgive the off-topic comment: My son-in-law is from Rome, GA. [:)]

Welcome newbie! Wow 9pm-7am shift, uh? I feel you; mine is 2am-10am. I'm used to it, though; plus it allows me to do other stuff during the day that I wouldn't be able to do on an 8am-5pm schedule.

    Enjoy your software!

Thanks Lew, but I've not seen any off topic comments.  Can you share your son in law's name?  Does he attend Church here in Rome; I'm looking for a "medium sized" Church to call home....

Will try downloading the remainder of the 8 GB of software at 2 am IF I can push myself out of bed and walk out to the shop where the internet connection is located.  Today has been mainly a day of REST for me as I always get terribly depressed on 9/11 [:^)]

    Thanks,

Alternative is configuring Automatic Downloads between 2 am and 7 am along with configuring energy saver to keep computer from sleeping so Logos can be left running.

Note: automatic download times are daily.

Hi Mark, welcome to the forums. You will really enjoy Logos. And the forums are great place to get help. You'll find that there are a lot of Logos users that are very active and very passionate about Bible study, and more specifically, Bible study with Logos.

A couple of things to remember:

    1) piggybacking off what someone else said about providing detailed information when you need help -  try to provide as much detailed information as you can regarding a) what you were trying to accomplish and b) what results you achieved that we're not what you expect. (Example: I performed a Bible lemma search but got zero search hits).

    2) usually it's a good idea to include information about your system and the version of Logos that you are on. You can find out which version of Logos you're using by clicking on "Logos" in the file menu at the top of your computer screen, then clicking on "About Logos Bible Software." It will look something like this: Logos Bible Software 7.1 Beta 3, 7.1.0.0010

    3) when possible, try to includes screenshots that demonstrate behavior you are questioning or results that you think are incorrect.

    4) remember that the MVPs are your best friends. 95% of the time, they're the ones who will have answers to your questions. The Faithlife employees are active in the forums, but most the time MVPs have already answered your questions before Faithlife employees see your posts. You'll know it's an MVP you're talking to if there's an orange star below their picture (see the orange star under TCBlack in this thread).

    5) The wiki pages provide a ton of helpful info if you'll take time to read them. https://wiki.logos.com/

Again, welcome to the forums. I bid you happy and productive Bible study.

    Hey Mark,

He and my daughter live here in Michigan and have for several years. Their last name is Hamilton. I hope you find a great church that will embrace your gifts and your enthusiasm for using Logos! [:)]

I prefer to note that it is a star shaped hole in a rust colored metal square ....

    Keep Smiling 4 Jesus!,

I think everything is on its way to resolution.  Naturally, it's not possible to FORCE a download of "downloadable items", so I chose to leave the computer on and configured automatic downloads between 2 & 7 am.  Sure enough - got back out to the computer moments ago to find 4 GB had downloaded and my "resources" in the task bar is now 628 instead of 115!  Look like we're on the right track, gentlemen.  Will do the same tonight to complete the install as I hear it's about an 8 GB installation.

Let me go practice my Bach for a few hours and I'll come back out and check this out!!

Thanks for your help and hanging in there with the Newbie from Rome,

    Mark

  • I think everything is on its way to resolution.

+1 [8-|] By the way, if want to install your library on another computer (or install Verbum so can have Logos and Verbum open at the same time), Logos wiki has => Quick Installation onto multiple computers with scan command examples.

Caveat: installing Logos and Verbum does duplicate resources and indexes so need adequate storage space.

Thanks for your help and hanging in there with the Newbie from Rome,

Thankful for many friendly forum discussions; have learned a lot plus have a lot to learn.

    Keep Smiling [:)]

    Myke,

You're welcome my friend, so glad to help. Glad you've connected with us here on the forums; I think a lot of users miss out on a lot of information that could be helpful because they don't leverage these forums. You really can't put a price tag on how valuable the input from the MVPs and the FL folks  are.  I can't tell you how many times they have helped me through the forums, or how much I have learned just browsing these forums late at night. As you have time, just read all you can – you'll be amazed how much you can learn just reading the posts that interest you in the forums.

I see that you're from Rome. Beautiful place up there. I live in Warner Robins, actually in Byron, about 10 minutes south of Macon.

    Blessings brother!!
