Courses tool should support Notes "Attach to current selection" attachment points.

When selecting text from within the courses tool, that course tool selection can't be treated as an attachment point for an existing note. The "attach to current selection" link is greyed out.

To accomplish this, you have to open the actual resource that the course tool is displaying, navigate to the section containing the excerpt shown in the course tool, find and highlight the specific text, then use the original resource's current selection for the attachment.

That's tedious. It would be nice if you could attach right from the course tool.

It's peculiar that you can add a new note from the course tool (which links to the original resource), but you can't attach the current (course tool) selection from within a note.

I suppose that the new note creation works, because the course tool originates the request and passes the original document details to be used for the note.

I assume that the attach to current selection fails, because the note tool originates that request, but doesn't know how to convert the link for the selected text to refer to the original resource instead of the course excerpt.

Confirming this does not work, it would be useful it was possible.

In case you, or anyone else is reading this post is not aware, the section of text being displayed in the courses tool can be navigated to directly by clicking on the circled heading in the screen shot below.

In the screen shot I am hovering over the link so you can see the text from the resource in a preview window.

Whenever I start a new lesson in the courses tool I simply click on this link and work directly from the resource rather the courses tool, I simply use the courses tool to identify how far I should read, but do all my reading directly from the resource so I have access to all the features of that resource and issues like the one you have raised can be worked around but it would be better if it could all be done from the courses tool.

Wow, I never realized that heading was a link, since it appears in black and looks like plain text until you happen to hover over it!

It certainly is a time-saver for navigating directly to the original text, but that shouldn't be an obscure feature. Perhaps FL could change the heading text formatting to match the link appearance, to make it apparent to anyone else who didn't realize that the heading was clickable.

    Thanks for the tip!

This has not been supported in the Course tool since its initial release in 7.0, but it would be a convenient improvement/fix.

Should we have been able to attach course tool selections to an existing note? Is this a bug, or simply a limitation of the Courses tool?
