High CPU usage when Logos is just being idle
I've noticed that the Windows Logos 7 program is using 25 to 40% of CPU usage when I have it open, but not actually interacting with it at all. The indexer is not running (finished indexing a while ago).
Is there anything useful that Logos is actually doing that is causing this CPU usage? I've attached a typical output from task manager. 57% CPU usage on my PC. Most of that is Logos.
This isn't just for a few seconds - the main process is permanently using 24 to 30% of the CPU just by the program being open. I've had it open for several hours and it is still using 25%+ CPU
(Windows 10, 1TB SSD with 750GB free, 16GB RAM, i5-6500).

Well, I just killed the "Media" window, and Logos drops to less than 1% CPU usage. But the Media window wasn't doing anything that I could see. It was just displaying graphic. Those Logos CEF processes are now using 0 to 3% CPU now.
Is the Media window doing something all the time in the background?
I displayed the Media window by clicking a Joel bible background graphic in the "Media Collections" section of the passage guide.
Anyway now I know what window is causing the excessive CPU usage I can just kill it when I've got the graphic I need. The high logos CPU usage kept making the PC fans come on very loud to cool down the system, but it is all quiet now!.

Jim,
Can you let me know what resources you have open, and a screenshot of what your layout looks like. It will help us reproduce this issue.

My layout. Small number of collections, active visual filters, links, parallel resources --> starts quickly.
Resources --> SBLGNT, Quran, DBL Greek, ESV, Bible Knowledge Commentart (BKC). Closing them doesn't affect the issue!

Jim and Dave,
Could you do the following:
- Click on the gear on the home page.
- Turn each option off.
- One by one turn each conent source on.
Please let us know if you observe a spike in CPU usage when you turn a specific source on.

Hi,
I tried that but apart from a few seconds spike when a new resource was turned on and the home page repainted, there was no real CPU increase after any of the options.
I am finding that the Media window does not always cause the high CPU usage. It doesn't in another layout I have for the sermon on the mount.

Conducted tests with Media off. Spikes of 12-15% after turning on each Content, but then settling back to 0%. After returning to my layout, Media started at 6-7% and remained constant. But after going to Home Page, checking Settings and returning, Media spiked up to 32% and remained constant. Thereafter, Media would start and remain at 32-34%.

I'm having a similar issue with CPU usage when I'm doing a Bible passage list. As you can see in the picture, I have closed all Logos windows except for the passage list, and Logos is still taking around 30% of my CPU to look up a passage. It will go down to 1-2% but every time I type in a passage (ie. 2Ki2) it goes up to 30% and my computer slows down. Each time Logos also temporarily says "not responding" but then works fine. I am running Windows 10 on a MS SurfaceBook.

I can't reproduce this in Logos 7.10. Does it make a difference if you disconnect your dual monitor setup?

Hi. Unrelated question: how do you like running Logos 7 on your Surfacebook (I assume is not Surfacebook 2)? I'm considering getting one but how Logos runs on it is a key factor.

Hi Ross,
I'm running it on the original SurfaceBook - but with maximum (for the time) specs - 16GB RAM, Intel i7-6600U CPU (and of course they all have SSDs - mine is 500GB)
I find Logos generally runs quite well (other than the problem as noted above) - most of the time I use it plugged into an external monitor and keyboard while doing so, as I find I need more screen real estate.
