Is Dr. Buth really a bot?

Hi all,

I have a fairly strong grammatical and language foundation, but no formal training in Hebrew. I've just begun to self-teach myself, using Lambdin's grammar, among other resources.

Can someone please help me understand Buth's (Hebrew Audio Pronounciations add-in) approach to Hebrew pronounciations? For example we all traditionally pronounced יהוה as Yahweh, or perhaps Yahveh. Buth pronounces out the letters: "yod he vav he."

He does this with other short consonantal lemmas, such as בוא, (to come, to come in) vo or bo (with the dagesh forte,) at least according to Strongs and NASB dictionaries. Buth pronounces this: bet vav alef.

On the other hand, נצל (to strip, plunder, deliver oneself,) he pronounces as "nits(z)al", not nun tsade lamed, as with above. And so on. Does Buth's pronounicaion comport with modern Hebrew, some accepted Academic style, or some incomplete hybrid of the two? Is Dr. Buth really a bot? Wink

The information for the resource has some detail about the pronunciation approach.

I believe Yahweh is spelled out in order to be sensitive to users who believe that the name of God should not be said aloud. See here for a past thread on the topic: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/86793.aspx

Tom, as Andrew's screen shot shows, you can find a good deal of Buth's explanation by typing "Show Pronunciation" in the Command Box and then hitting "Enter", Next, click "Hebrew Pronunciations (Buth)". Hoping this well help!
