I want to thank all of the Logos staff who have been so patient, gracious, and earnest in their efforts to present and clarify the details of this new program and Faithlife's reason for creating it.  I have cringed when reading some of the rather accusative member posts in this thread (and others) regarding the program and have subsequently been amazed at the gentle and helpful responses by staff members.  But I've also appreciated the staff's responses to so many questions from members who are simply trying to get a handle on the new program.  It does seem to me that Faithlife has made an earnest attempt to come up with a program that can have a very broad range of appeal.  By it's very nature however, I think any such program can lead to a lot of confusion and misunderstanding when first presented.  I don't know if Faithlife adequately anticipated the number and range of questions members would have, but I think the staff has done a great job in fielding them all.

I'm not in full-time ministry, so as a lay-person, I acknowledge I don't have as much skin in the game as those who are.  My vocation is not affected by Faithlife's offerings, whether in terms of features or resources.  Even so, I've had the software since the Libronix days and have upgraded with each new release of Logos.  I currently have the Logos 6 Gold library and have purchased many additional resources that were not offered as part of a package.  Unlike some, I have not kept an account of what I've spent with Faithlife, but I expect it's in the $4K to $5K range--possibly (probably [;)])higher.  In the past, I have followed discussions regarding the Logos Cloud and the old Logos Now programs, but I found them of little interest/value for me.  But I am looking very seriously at the new Logos Now program.  I am not at all upset that the new program provides both new customers and existing customers with easier, less expensive options for obtaining features that in the past required me to purchase a Gold library or above.  Nor do I feel the new program harms me in any other way.  I'm glad I can continue with business as usual, making my purchase decisions regarding features and resources as I always have if I so choose.  But I'm also thankful for the new options made available.

I also want to thank all the non-staff forum members who have responded to so many of our questions.  As is so often the case, your contributions have added much value to the forum.

Is ... exactly my thinking.  Of course I decided not to upgrade to Windows10, which will doom Logos6 to off-line.  That might have influenced my thinking.  I try hard to seem intelligent.

There is a real danger in this that Logos should consider. This is getting really complicated to understand. I tried to explain it to my pastor yesterday to encourage him to a Logos Now membership, but it took 10 minutes of back-and-forth discussion to *try* to get him to understand what is going on. It's just not simple or easy to understand. That is going to be an ongoing problem which may actually dampen Logos sales. The scheme needs to be simplified.

    Have any suggestions?

It really boils down to this:

    • Do you want to pay more and own it <OR>
    • Do you want to pay less, rent it, while getting new features faster and having member benefits.

The confusion comes when people want to know the intricacies. I remember my grandmother wanting a new TV. At least 4 family members took her "window" shopping but she was so overwhelmed she never got one. I am someone who likes all the details, but I made a mistake with her and should have told her to pick the one you think LOOKS good and you like the PRICE. I think this is probably a similar situation. There are quite a few details someone might want to consider, but in the end, it boils down to paying more and owning OR less and renting.

To be honest, I am an "own" type person... but when it comes to Logos, I am more than willing to rent the features. I consider them "icing." The "meat" is the books, and those I want to own.

Don't feel alone.  By definition, the intelligencia is an elite intellectual group, and based on the questions and confusion evident in all the threads related to Logos Now, I suspect many of us have been feeling much like you.  I've learned that one thing I cannot do, is skim the posts and get much benefit from them.  For me, has become:  Read slowly; back up; re-read slowly; pause; ponder; re-read slowly.  Even then, it's been a bit of a challenge, but I think the fog is starting to clear.  In Alabama's post today at 10:15, I think he's drawn a good analogy of what's been going on here with his story of his grandmother shopping for a new TV.  I've been there and done that, so I couldn't help but chuckle when reading his post.

This thread gets a lot less complicated if you ignore everything in it about Logos Now that wasn't written by a Faithlife employee.

This thread gets a lot more complicated for people who skim-read it, especially the parts written by Faithlife employees.

Well said, and thank you Faithlife. I do think putting out the information about Logos Now prior to the launch of Logos 7 was a good idea, and staff (and users) have been very helpful at answering questions. I myself had asked a question, and it turned out my answer was in the very screenshot I had asked about! So even when Faithlife puts out the information, it is still subject to being overlooked, misunderstood, and misinterpreted, which has got to be extremely frustrating for them.

Unfortunately, I think you guys may have missed one of mine (from the bottom of the first page):

Will the special 5% Logos Now discount also apply to people with academic discounts?

I'm checking to confirm how this will work. Just want to be sure before giving an answer.

Now that would be an EXTREMELY helpful  filter to be able to apply to the threads that inevitably arise and go on for pages and pages whenever there is a big announcement. Would probably save a lot of time and frustration for all involved if such a thing could easily be implemented.

Sorry this seems confusing. I'm intentionally providing more detail than we'll provide in our marketing communication, since many forum users like these kinds of details.

It'll be much easier to understand once Logos 7 is live on the website and we have more simplified marketing communication better suited for most users. Your options should be pretty clear at that point. Not interested in Logos Now? That's okay. You can buy Logos 7 just like you would Logos 6. Want to know what impact Logos Now will have on your Logos 7 purchase? Just add Logos Now to your cart with Logos 7 and look at your price. Remove it to see what you'd pay without it.

It's simpler than these threads may make it seem. A Logos Now membership really boils down to two basic things:

    1. Member-only offers, discounts, promotions, promo codes, freebies.
    2. Access to Logos features and other content.

That's pretty much it. If I can help you, feel free to call me (360-685-2314) or email me (phil@faithlife.com).

Yes, but for clarification: You don't have to get Logos Now for your software to say "6.13." The software engine is always free. When major new releases come out, they are typically made available at first only to those who make a purchase, but are then made available to everyone. If you are using the L5 engine, you should have updated a year and a half ago!

If you own an L5 base package, a "Logos Now" membership will get you ALL of the datasets for L6 & L7 which have been made available to date.

Out of curiosity, if the features from 6.12 etc are being called features of L7 how does that way of describing them change when L7 ships, in other words, they are saying 6 point __ features are actually 7 early release so 7 point __ are actually L8 features etc. Sounds like it will be confusing when someone wants to buy a base package with features. What will L7 contain? All the features that have been developed up to that date of shipping L7? Seems like one could argue that 7 point___ features should come with 7 etc. Maybe I'm just confusing myself. Apologies in advance

I didn't follow all of that, and I admit some of it is confusing. Part of that is FL's fault.

if the features from 6.12 etc are being called features of L7

It is really semantics. The features may or may not need software changes, but are features released with L5 (like personal books) any less a part of L6? The software engine is an evolution, with little changes along the way. Sometimes major changes happen mid stream. The early L7 engines will likely have more similarities to the later L6 ones, than the later L6 ones have with the early L6 ones.

    What will L7 contain?

We will have to wait and see! [:)]

I think you are [;)] Are you confusing "new features" with "features"? The features of L8 = all the retained features of L1-L7 + new features added to L8.

I'm pretty sure I understand what will be included when it ships, I just don't think the current numbering description will be helpful. For instance all new features after L6 are call L7 features even though they are released as 6.12 , 6.13 etc. then after day one of L7 they will start naming new  releases 7.1,2,3,4 etc. But are advertising that as early features of 8 etc.

It is potentially confusing. Part of that confusion is the difference between the version of the software/application (the thing you install) and the version of the product/SKU (the thing you purchase). For example, think of the person who is using the Logos 6 engine/application, but owns a Logos 5 base package. Each has its own versioning.

For Logos Now members, the licensable features of version 7 of the product/SKU are released in versions 6.x–7.0 of the software/application. For everyone else they're released with version 7.0 of the application. The fact that a Logos 7 product feature can be used early while still running Logos 6.x doesn't make it a Logos 6 feature. It reinforces that Logos Now grants you early access to Logos 7 features.

If you can get your head around the product/SKU vs. software/application version difference, it starts to make sense.

Since Phil reassured some that they would be able to get their money back on their current purchase of a base package when L7 comes out if they so desire, I would expect that we are within 30 days of release, which would be within the standard return window.  If it is also going to be released on one of the scheduled dates, then that would seem to indicate 8/22.

When it involves a major release of the software you can get 60 days money back (if you want your money going for the new one - that's why Phil mentioned they make an exception and cut you a real good deal) so I'm leaning towards an October L7 release. Hey, they might stretch it out and do November, but October seems more realistic and more in line with their history of releases 😉 Besides, they gotta leave room for Black Friday and December's sales and mid November release cycle seems too close to have all those sales 😁

Why would you think that? Your guess is as good as mine, but he simply provided a list of LN release dates for the remainder of the year. The membership program has new releases EVERY six weeks ad infinitum.

    Phil,

When will the 5% discount be available online for those with academic discounts? As things are currently configured, it is more expensive to buy a package with academic discount than it is without it. I checked 3 or 4 packages that I am interested in.

    Hi Chris,

I have a Logos 5 Bible software and just subscribed to the new Logos Now Membership.

According to one of the features of the Logos Now Membership, it says: " Logos Now members gain access to exclusive media collections that are only available through subscription. Enjoy over 6,000 pieces of premium still and motion media, including beautiful, hand-crafted slides for your presentations, photographs to enhance your biblical understanding, Bible verse animations, and more"

Question: How or where can I have access to these still and motion media collections?

Thank you and would appreciate your reply.

    Sincerely,

Welcome to the forums Sidney. Have you updated the software? If so, under tools open the Media tool. If not, update your software first - if you are Logos Now, "update now" in the command box should get the update started.

    Hi,

    Thank you for your reply.

I tried to type in "update now" in the command box, however, it says "no updates available," "no updates were found." I have Logos 5 software and I don't see any media under tools. Do I need to uninstall my Logos and re-install it again in order to update my software?

    Appreciate your assistance.

Are both your Logos Now subscription and your Logos 5 installation tied to the same email address? If not, it would explain your problem.

With Logos Now you should have automatically update to L7 ... I suspect that the fact you were not on L6 may be responsible. I'd go to https://www.logos.com/support/logos6/windows/install to update to L6 (free) then try Update Now again.

Question: I have never owned anything related to Logos. I was looking at the Verbum Portfolio package which runs roughly $4,500.  Instead, if I joined "Verbum Now" what do I not get access to as compared to the Verbum Portfolio package? Is it strictly an "ownership" vs. "rental" thing? With a subscription to Verbum Now do you still have to buy something else to get the full access of all of the data (books, letters, etc.) of the portfolio edition?

At $99/Year is would take 45 years to equal the single, one-time purchase of the platform package... so, I am really confused as to why someone would make that type of a purchase and not go the rental route... or am I missing something?

Verbum Now, Logos Now is a membership giving you the full features of Logos. This does not include any ownership of books or features. You do have preview access to certain resources each month. As well as new features that come out about every 6 weeks. You would still have to get a base package. I hope that helps.

    • The "Verbum Portfolio package" is the purchase (ownership) of resource licenses (books).
    • The purchase of a "full feature set" is the purchase (ownership) of all current and past features (with corresponding datasets).
    • "Verbum Now" is a membership program. One of the benefits is access to all current, past & future(!) datasets (meaning that as L8 features/datasets are developed, you gain access many months in advance). Other features include access to preview resources and special discounts. A membership to "Verbum Now" will not provide you with the resources of the "Verbum Portfolio Package," which would require a large purchase investment.
    • "Verbum Cloud" is a monthly rental of resources (books). The price tiers available do not have a 1=1 correspondence with the packages for purchase.
