64 bit Windows 7 rescued my old Dell Inspiron - Logos 4 works quite well now

Just a comment - I was thinking about buying a new PC because my 2.5 year old Dell Core 2 Duo with Vista (3 gigs ram and 2.2Ghz, approx. 2600 books) would not run Version 4 - it kept freezing and closing. . .I decided to try to upgrade the existing PC first. I upgraded the BIOS, then did a clean install of Windows 7 Professional 64 bit - I eliminated EVERYTHING except MS Office and IE explorer and whatever else installs with Windows 7, and am VERY pleased with the results. Everything works quite well. I have some extra RAM on order and think that it will improve things even more! In general the computer works a LOT better on 7 than it did on Vista. I am not sure if I can attribute that entirely to the operating system upgrade, or perhaps to 50 Gigs of extra hard drive space that I am leaving open by making this my Logos computer and nothing else. . .Anyway - thought I would pass that along.

I did some research on Dell's website on upgrading to 64 bit and followed their directions. . .The BIOS upgrade seemed to be the key to making it all work.

Did the same thing myself with a 1720 and a 9400 - 2 new HD's by Hatachi 500gb @7200- 4gig of ram, with an upgrade to both on Win7- both after some initial slow started are now twicked and humming 10 times better than with Vista.

Cleaned up a lot of junk off them both.

Hey guys, I am glad to hear that because I just bought an upgrade to my Vista. I changed RAM from 2 GB to 4 GB recently and also HDD from 160 GB 5400speed to 500 GB 7200speed. Now I want to upgrade from 32bit system to 64 bit one. I am glad to hear it helped you. I will report here what it did with my Dell XPS 1330M. I have to do a fresh install, since I am changing also from 32 system to 64. Quite a work but I think it will be worth of that effort. We will see.

Everything is better about Windows 7 over Vista. Vista just didn't work. I bought a new Toshiba just before upgrading to Logos 4. I'm running Windows 7, 64 bit, Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 with 4GB Ram. My HDD is 500GB. I thought this would be sufficient for Logos 4 but I'm still surprised at how slow this program runs (and loads). I'm guessing folks with lesser systems might find it a time consuming process to do bible study with it. I'm hoping Logos will keep speed on the front burner while they continue to make improvements.

I run two other "Top" bible study library programs and they both run crispy clean. Neither of them come close to Logos 4, IMO, regarding what they can do though so that statement is not a put-down of Logos (great company, great support, and absolutely awesome program). Bugs are expected on any new release and we know Logos will get to them as quickly as possible. So if I had only one wish for improvement it would be increase in speed.

With Logos 4 I'm finding that I don't need to open my other libraries (each did some things better than Logos 3) and I'm doing my studies exclusively with Logos 4 so far.

So I use my upgraded Windows 7 64 bit system with upgraded 4GB RAM and 500 GB 7200rpm HDD. I am very much impressed with the Windows 7. The speed of whole system is much better. Speed of Logos is better but not dramatically. I am glad I did the upgrade.
