Hello,
I have a saved layout that comprises the following resources:
Monitor 1 (all resources are in tabs arranged in a manner so that only one resource at a time is visible on this monitor): BDAG, Theological Dictionary of the New Testament, ESV Bible, Concise Oxford English Dictionary, The Complete Word Study Dictionary (New Testament), Analytical Lexicon of the Greek New Testament, The Elements of New Testament Greek, and a Search pane.
Monitor 2: Power Lookup
I just opened this layout and I've been reading the introductory essay in BDAG (this means that in monitor 1, that BDAG was open, and in monitor 2, Power Lookup was open). Within BDAG, it reads "In the kingdoms of the Diadochi it expanded..." I don't know what Diadochi is, so I right-clicked on it. It took 18 seconds for the right-click context menu to fully appear. It first took 3-6 seconds for the word 'Diadochi' to be highlighted, then the rest of the time was spent rendering and displaying the text in the menu.
This is a fresh install of Windows 7 x64, a fresh install of Logos 4.0a SR-3 (i.e. I downloaded the latest setup exe, re-downloaded the 9+GB of data, and reindexed). I did this because I figured with the extremely long delays I experience in Logos 4, that despite all evidence to the contrary (i.e. every other program works flawlessly and has no delays whatsoever), that I would attempt a completely clean OS, driver, etc. install. It has made no difference in the performance of Logos 4.
I also experimented with simply right-clicking on a variety of words in the BDAG, and even though after the initial incredibly slow response, it still took on an average of 12-15 seconds for the right-click context menu to appear. It is also worth noting that when clicking on any other resource's tab, there is a several second delay (many times during which 'not responding' will appear in the Logos title bar).
I then closed all resources one-by-one and even when all resources were closed except the BDAG on monitor 1, and Power Lookup on monitor 2, it still took 18 seconds to display the pop-up menu for 'Diadochi'! Hard to believe. Once I closed the 'Power Lookup' pane, the time to render and display the right-click menu dropped from 18 seconds to 1-2 seconds. Still not fast by any means, but an obvious improvement.
The full specs of my machine are in my signature, but it is an 8-core dual-Xeon with 16 GB of RAM and a very fast 1GB video card, so I feel quite confident that it's not a hardware or driver problem (also very disk and CPU applications such as Lightroom 2, Photoshop, Visual Studio, Mathematica, etc. work wonderfully fast).
I've had many, many experiences such as this in Logos 4, but most of the time, I am too pressed for time to actually write up the problem.
It would be wonderful if Logos would comment on this,
Matt
