Would you be interested in a public domain German-English dictionary? If so, does anyone know what the best one is? There are several at Google Books and Open Library. Let me know, and we'll see about getting something up on Community Pricing.

I'd be delighted to start the bidding on a public domain German dictionary on Community Pricing.
But I'm no help on which dictionary to go for, apart from making sure it is not in the (old) Gothic font.

I'm not familiar with the public domain dictionaries so I would hesitate to make a recommendation on those.
Of course, the ideal would be to have Oxford-Duden but it is not public domain.

That one's on the list, but until we can get it, perhaps a public domain dictionary would be sufficient. Anything is better than our current offerings.

I have a very good dictionary from DUDEN OXFORD ''Grosswoerterbuch Englisch '' PC-Bibliothek version 2.0 mit Plus-paket '' this is english-German visversa ,it is a good one,if can choose either english or German ,if you want a German word you can have it in english ,if you want German you can have it in english.even though I own this ,still I am ready to buy ,if it will be comatible to the Logos software.
I bought it before 8 years,I do't know wether there is an upgrade of it.

I could use one. I've forgotten the majority of my German.
I am glad that the Luther bible is available but, I think ,not only the dictionary it self,it might be helpful to inlude some references as well.

Some time back I submitted a "Suggestion" (aka "Request") that a German-English dictionary be added. I even suggested that Logos add The Collins Concise German - English Dictionary. In L3 I could hover on a German word and click a hot key to bring up the definition. For some reason that functionality disappeared in L4 - I now have to type the word into the Collins search box. BUT, Logos already has the Collins Latin - English Dictionary, so why not add the Collins German - English Dictionary? This would be a great help for those of us with the Stuttgart Electronic Study Bible.

That functionality (at least for words for which you have the appropriate dictionary in your Library, which wouldn't include German right now) has been merged into the multi-functional right-click menu in L4. So now you can right-click on a word, make sure "Selection" is the tab selected on the right side of the popup menu, and then choose "Look up" on the left:
EDIT: Even without a complete German dictionary, if you right-click in L4 to look up German terms that you come across in theological works, it is quite likely you'll find them in a resource like The Concise Dictionary of Christian Theology, or the Pocket Dictionary for the Study of New Testament Greek. The latter in particular has lots of German terms defined. Unfortunately it's not available by itself but only as part of the Essential IVP Reference Collection, but that is a great collection worth buying for everything in it.

Thanks for your reply. But I still don't understand why the Collins Concise German Dictionary, an app completely outside/separate/distinct from Logos 3, brings up an English definition of a German word when the cursor is on the German word and the hotkey is clicked, yet this won't work in Logos 4.

I bought The Concise Collins German Dictionary as a download. I can copy/paste words into it and click Enter. But in L3 all I needed to do was rest the cursor on a word and click a hotkey. The definition would come up and I could click to hear the lemma pronounced. I repeat, this app is not related to Logos in any way, but it certainly functioned with Logos 3.

lol, thank you for getting that through to my brain. I wasn't aware of that option in L3 (even if technically not related to it). That does sound "sweet".
I wonder, with all the Google technology used by Logos, as I understand it, if they could import the Google translator tool within the program and we could use that to translate a whole passage/book? With limitations, of course. But I really don't know what I am talking about.
I would love to have a Langenscheidts or something like that.

Sorry Tes, that was just a joke. You accidentally misspelled Logos as "Lagos" which is a port city of Nigeria. I get a little goofy at times. War nur Spass. Entschuldigung fuer das Missverstaendnis--ich habe keinen Aerger gemeint!
