Dear all
refTagger is great, but do not work with full name bible books in French
Like : ; Luc 5:23-24, 7:22, 7:48-49 ; Jean 10:21; Psaumes 23:5, Luc 6:38 ; Jean 4:14, etc ....
Could I or you help to make it work?
Cheers
Can you point me in the direction of a site that is not tagging the references correctly?
The page you linked to is using the English version of RefTagger, so only book names/abbreviations that happen to coincide between English and French will be found.
To install the French version of RefTagger, follow the instructions on https://fr.reftagger.com/ (the code snippet is slightly different)
Thanks,
The french webpage instructions seems to be a translation of the english one and to lead to the same procedure I did. Only the customization part seems different.
If I understand well: I must customize my WP template to make it french? but I do not know where / how to customize template. And here I am blocqued
Do you have the plugin code reftagger/RefTagger.php for french sites?
There must be a documentation error. The Wordpress plugin only supports English.
I myself am not familiar with Wordpress itself, but it should not be difficult to find a guide for template customization.
Praise the Lord,
I solved my problem for RefTagger with WP in french, as I cannot edit my theme.
I just replaced
g.src = '//api.reftagger.com/v2/reftagger<?php echo $is_spanish ? '.es' : ''?>.js';
by
g.src = "//api.reftagger.com/v2/RefTagger.fr.js";
in the reftagger plugin.php
and it works!
Many Wordpress users, cannot modify their template on some secure hostings.So, RefTagger has a port to spanish integrated, it would be great to have the same in French as well.
Here is how I do reftagger working in French on Wordpress
That's a pity that RefTager script is not made for all languages.

extension, moddifier reftagger.php
>> changer en :g.src = ‘//api.reftagger.com/v2/reftagger.fr.js’;
add_option(‘lbs_bible_version’, ‘ESV’, ‘Which Bible version to use’);
>> changer en : add_option(‘lbs_bible_version’, ‘LSG’, ‘Which Bible version to use’);
>> changer en :
add_option(‘lbs_bible_version’, ‘LSG’, ‘Which Bible version to use’);
3 – réactiver reftagger (voir point 1)
Hi,
I am seeing the same bug (full Bible book names not recognized as expected in French) in Reftagger French.
This is the page I just added it to and noted it could not find eg. Jean 8, 44 but could find I Cor. 11, 29. https://www.egliselutherienne.org/bibliotheque/CA/AC2iemePartie.html
I see there is a strage behaviour re the French customary citation form - Rom. 1,1 will produce two links, the first Rom 1 will give all of Rom cahpter 1, and the 1 after the comma will give Rom 1:1.
I made a test page to check various behaviours and found that in order for it to find Jean 8,44 I would need to have Jean. 8,44.
https://www.egliselutherienne.org/bibliotheque/CA/ReftaggerFtest.html
Is the French customary way of giving Bible citations (eg. Jean 8,44.45 = English John 8:44-45) not supported? Even so I would expect Jean 8 to have been picked up by Reftagger at least. This leads me to think it's a bug... :-(
Strangely it works if there the full name is given with a period following, eg. Jean. 8,44.
Please help! Semi-tagged pages don't look good, and more imporantly don't help people check, read, and learn as much Scripture!
David
Hi David,Sorry to hear you're having issues with Reftagger in French. This link was very helpful: https://www.egliselutherienne.org/bibliotheque/CA/ReftaggerFtest.htmlWe will take a look at this and follow-up here. Thanks for the report.Kirsten Floyd
Hi David,
We were able to reproduce what you were seeing. However, unfortunately we do not currently support that format.

Hi and thanks for looking into this.
Unfortunate but ok if you don't support the french system of Jean 1,1 (= English John 1:1)
1
but could you at least
fix "Jean 1" (doesn't work)
but "Jean. 1" (works)
and "Jean 1:1" (works)? This is plainly a bug...
I updated the sample file https://www.egliselutherienne.org/bibliotheque/CA/ReftaggerFtest.html to show what works and doesn't in this regard.
If fixed, when it encounters "Jean 1,1" it will pick up at least on "Jean 1" which is more helpful than no link at all.

You would make my day if you also could pick up book abbreviations without the "." (which are abbreviations that include the last letter of the book name). Eg. currently picks up "Jn. 1" but not "Jn 1". (Perhaps related to the same problem above).
Then Reftagger (French) will at least always pick up something for French Bible references even if not exact down to the verse. This will make it much more useful.
