Show Differences in Text Compare not available in Logos4 Leader's Version - What?!?!

I don't think it is right that this feature is only available on higher version of Logos4. Watching the training videos was what excited me about upgrading...and when I saw this feature I was very excited about it. The video did not say this was only for certain versions. I think it is misleading that Logos lists this because viewers will assume it will be in there...like several users here on the forums seeking to find out why it does not work.

Logos - please add this feature or at least update the video to say it is only for the higher end versions.

James, I'm sorry that you don' have the features you expected and feel that you were misled. I also am running the Leaders Package but have the features that you speak of. Now I did purchase these as an add-on for Logos 3 and it looks like they have migrated up to Logos 4 when I cross graded. So firstly, if you have Logos 3 installed you could do as I did and purchase the add-on which can be found here:

Sync your licences via Logos 3 with the server and hopefully Logos 4 should then update itself to include the features.

Secondly are you sure that you don't already have them? As I assumed like you that they were now included with all Logos 4 base packages and that perhaps I had spent money on things that were now included as the norm. If they exist, on your machine you can find them under Tools/Passage/Text Comparison (and Passage Analysis)

If they are not and you don't have Logos 3 installed, talk to Customer service and see if they will sell you the Logos 3 addin, and activate the licence on your behalf.

The Passage Analysis options were available in the initial releases of Logos 4 however when they disappeared in one of the subsequent releases without explanation. I also noticed that the version comparison now lists Passage Analysis as not being available in LE. If you search the forums for "passage analysis" you will see a number of threads about it.

You are correct--it really is only Logos that can deal with this. But there are thousands of these posts. Eventually, hopefully one of the Logos folks will see yours.

Features such as this are usually not added in a "patch." At the very least you usually have to purchase them separately. I'm sorry that it does not appear to be presently available.

Inclusion or exclusion is usually based on marketing. It does appear that some things have been taken out of some Boxed sets, other things added. Some time ago owners of the Original Languages Boxed set asked long and loud to be able to have the Lectionary add-in. It eventually was allowed to be purchased as an optional module.

An almost similar thing happened with the PBB "reader key." In that case I believe they did add it across the board to the lower cost Box sets. At that time people were able to log in and to download it.

I realize that this does not answer your question. But if this feature was recently removed, then yes, ask vigorously for it to be replaced. But please do not assume that it will just "appear" etc.

Call, write, email, ask for it on forums like you are doing. Even better yet, phone and email Logos itself about this issue.

Yes of course! As you can see from my previous post above I did pay the add-on fee during the Logos 3 days and that functionality has migrated up to Logos 4 with me - and I don't regret for a moment that I purchased it!

The issue as I see it is disappointment if one believed that the add-on would come within the initial purchase cost - Steve's comments are spot on and so only Logos can really answer your marketing question.

Just for clarity's sake - the add-on in question didn't come with the original Leader's Edition and so I'm not totally surprised that it's not included in the Logos 4 equivalent.

Yes, you you must also take some responsibility for not reading what you bought. You don't sign a Mortgage Contract based on the pictures of the house, you read the contract. In this case, Logos has a very detailed listing of every book and every feature included in each package. This listing clearly shows that the "Leaders Package" does not have Text Comparison.

Like a lot of people who bought the Leader's edition, I was initially disappointed that the text comparison tool wasn't included. But when I looked at the above graphic back then, I realized MY mistake and immediately upgraded to the Scholars edition for 274 dollars more. I am very glad I did, as I count not only the previously mentioned tool as worth it, but I got a ton of very good resouces to rely on.

So I guess I'm saying it is not Logos' fault, that I did not do my research properly.

I know you said to read what comes with the versions...but when I upgraded from the Pastors version I got the 'Text Comparison' panel as a carry-over feature. I do have 'Text Comparison' in Leaders because of the upgrade. The issue I had was that I assumed I would retain the features of the 'Text Comparison' like the double 'A's (Show Differences & Show Base Text). That is the features that did not display though - hence the issue. So viewing the list of what version contained what feature was really of no help because it does not break it down into all the details specifics of the 'Text Comparison' features.

Today I purchased the Compare Parallel Bible Versions Addin for Logos 3 and it enabled the Show Differences and Show Base Text Text Compare capabilities in Logos 4. I'm not sure if it would automatically sync up with Logos 4 or not, but here are the steps I took:

What's really interesting is that I have the Bible Study edition but I have Text Comparison, which I shouldn't have, according to the chart. I hope this post doesn't result in a new download for me that doesn't include text comparison but I won't complain if that happens. I would really not like having neither Text Comparison nor Passage Analysis, though.

When I purchased L4 I didn't really pay that much attention to the features that each edition included because: 1) I didn't know what they all did since I was a brand new user; and 2) I was more concerned with the content that I would have access to. Now that I know that Passage Analysis exists, though, I'd be more than happy to purchase it as an add-on if that option is ever offered.

Text Comparison will show Bible texts, but in base packages below Original Languages the difference buttons are disabled. Which means you cannot see the difference between Bible verses graphically.

What I find interesting is that after watching the well produced videos on all the great features of Logos 4 and reading through the very nicely put together ad introducing Logos 4 in a Special Promotional Issue of Bible Study Magazine (which I subsequently ordered today) I was under the impression that the features they were advertising were included in all packages. As I have starting diving into Logos 4, however, I am realizing that much of what I want to do (or thought I could do) is not included in the "cheap" $325 version I purchased. In other words, in order to do the kind of Bible study I want I would need to spend hundreds of dollars more than the hundreds of dollars I have already spent, and judging from the comments here and elsewhere I suspect many others are coming to that same sinking realization.

The advertisements imply these features are included and I think a reasonable person would reasonably reach that conclusion based on those advertisements. I understand there is a webpage with a complex myriad of color-coded features. Forgive me for not memorizing that webpage or all the rest of the opaque Logos fine print, but that does not negate the fact that the advertisements specifically highlight certain features and strongly suggest these are basic features already included in "Logos 4" regardless of which package is purchased. And how many "base" packages does Logos have anyway? If Logos has eight packages does that mean that the first seven are base packages?

I really like the analogy to purchasing a car because that is exactly what this feels like - being handled by a slick car salesman and being upsold at every turn. To me, being chiseled and maneuvered by unscrupulous salesmen is the worse part of the car purchase experience and the main reason I purposely avoid car salesmen. My apologies to any good and honest car salesmen who may read this, but I don't recall the last time car salesmanship was held up as an example of virtuous conduct. Still, I may not expect a sunroof to be "standard" equipment on a Ford, but Logos 4 is not a Ford. If anything it is a Cadillac (or something even more exotic) and I fully expect that it would come with at least Cadillac features. And why shouldn't I expect that from a "professional-level Bible study program." Logos certainly does not present Logos 4 as an average run of the mill product and I certainly did not spend $325 to buy one. If offering Cadillacs but delivering Fords is truly the way Logos looks at things we have a serious problem.

Logos 4 looks nice and I applaud Logos for the more realistic platform-neutral application, but the more I use it, the more I realize how little it actually meets my needs. I'm not a scholar, but to further quote the print ad in Bible Study Magazine, "Logos 4 is robust enough for seasoned pastors and scholars, but accessible to Bible students of all levels." That's Me! A Bible student of all levels. It just so happens that tonight I was re-reading the print advertisement and saw the Passage Analysis tool (page 11) and thought that is pretty helpful - even for a layman. Too bad I would have to spend another $300 to upgrade to the next level of the pyramid. What bothers me is that tool is presented as if it is part of Logos 4, not for specific packages. Even the help menu in Logos 4 describes this feature as if it is included.

In other posts I have compared Logos to Microsoft's dizzying array of packages ranging from expensive to ridiculous. I am now a Mac user and we are used to the Apple model where everyone gets the ultimate version from the start. Incidentally, I've come to avoid Microsoft for the same reasons I avoid car salesmen.

Yes, I too feel this is deceptive advertising. I bought Logos 4 because of the advertisements. I'm sorry I did, I don't feel that I got nearly my money's worth. Sadly I am coming to that realization after I bought it and recommended it to several friends, ironically touting those same features that sold me in the advertisements (which are not included). Perhaps the Passage Analysis tool is a feature that will be automatically included in a future update. I hope so and really it should be.

I am sorry to say this, but, Logos, you have lost my trust. It was bad enough that I am still waiting for a Mac equivalent after years of promises that one would be released "soon", but now I'm realizing that playing fast and loose with the facts, either intentionally or unintentionally, appears to be a pattern that I would rather avoid. I'm tired of feeling that the company that makes my Bible study program, of all people, seems to see me more as a quota or sales target than a valued user of their product. Which draws me to the conclusion that I am no longer willing to put my reputation on the line to further recommend Logos products.

That should do it. If for some reason it does not automatically update when L4 restarts (possibly because you have automatic updates set to "no") you can try to force the update manually by entering "update now" in the command box.
